Editing for improvement

Hi! I am a technical editor who will be reviewing Wikipedia articles for the next few weeks. I aim to work on this article from Sept-the end of Oct. I've identified a few areas in this article that could use some improvement. I plan to adjust grammatical and spelling errors to allow for better understanding and overall flow of the article. Additionally, I will verify citations and add more where it is needed. I will include scholarly sources to improve the credibility of the article. Lead images

The addition of File:Black and white bicolor cat.jpg to the lead is not an improvement. We have a good lead image, and this image is just a bad picture of someone's pet. Meters (talk) 21:56, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

ENGVAR

@Oknazevad the article was a mix of both British and US spellings. I looked at the oldest revision which was written with the British Spelling and it retained this long after being post-stub:

The article has had the consistent use of American English exclusively since 2008. And that edit was to make it consistent with the title, which has always been in American English (the article has never been moved), which is the true "first variety used" as it's the title. So it has had a stable ENGVAR for over a decade and a half until you changed it incorrectly three months ago. No guideline calls for changing an article's title after such a long period of stability without discussion. And there's zero reason to switch ENGVAR to make the body inconsistent with the title. oknazevad (talk) 22:34, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

The article was marked as British English based (the edit summary says) upon the spellings used in the prose in Special:Diff/726278173 in 2016. Uncle G (talk) 22:40, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

Funny enough that was my edit from 2016! oknazevad is correct that the title has always been "bicolor", and some people have tried to make piecemeal changes to the spellings, but we need to freeze it where it is and stop trying to flip it. Too many near duplicates of the bicolor pattern image

FYI, I have started a discussion at commons:File talk:Cat pattern - Bicolor (English).svg § Too many near duplicates of this image. I put the discussion on Commons because it may affect more than just the English Wikipedia. Please reply there.

I'm restoring the SVG version for now. If there's an issue with it, please revise it in place rather than uploading multitudes of redundant raster images. Thanks! — voidxor 19:53, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
