Updating Inaccurate and Outdated Information

[edit]

Requested edits to BTCS Inc. article (COI disclosure)

[edit]

I have a conflict of interest as I am an employee of BTCS Inc. and have a financial interest in the company. I am posting this request for review and possible implementation by uninvolved editors in accordance with WP:COI and WP:PAID. I will not edit the article directly.

Below are proposed changes with the current text, proposed replacement, and supporting sources.

---

1. Lead section correction

[edit]

Current text: "BTCS Inc. is a Bitcoin (abbreviation: BTC; sign: ₿) mining company that is the first cryptocurrency company to list on the American stock exchange during December 2010."

Proposed replacement: "BTCS Inc. is a blockchain infrastructure technology company that operates Ethereum validator nodes and provides staking services.[1] The company trades on the Nasdaq Capital Market under the ticker symbol 'BTCS' and is headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland.[2] The company previously operated an e-commerce marketplace and Bitcoin mining operations before transitioning to focus on Ethereum infrastructure.[3]"

Rationale: The current lead incorrectly describes BTCS as a Bitcoin mining company and misstates the listing year. SEC filings and reliable sources show that the company is now focused on Ethereum infrastructure, was listed on Nasdaq in 2014, and is headquartered in Silver Spring, MD.

---

2. Business operations section

[edit]

Current text: "BTCS hosts an online e-commerce marketplace where cryptocurrency investors may purchase merchandise with virtual assets."

Proposed replacement:

Historical operations

The company previously operated an e-commerce marketplace accepting payment in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.[4] It was also engaged in Bitcoin mining operations before transitioning to Ethereum infrastructure in 2021.[5]

Ethereum infrastructure and treasury

BTCS operates a strategy combining traditional finance mechanisms such as equity sales and convertible debt with decentralized finance protocols to accumulate Ethereum.[6] As of July 2025, the company reported holdings of 70,028 ETH valued at approximately $270 million.[7]

Blockchain infrastructure

BTCS operates blockchain infrastructure through its Builder+ platform, which is used in Ethereum block building.[8] The company's NodeOps platform provides validator node operations generating staking revenue.[9]

Rationale: The current section is outdated and incomplete. The proposed text provides historical context and updated information on current operations, with citations from SEC filings and reliable sources.

---

3. Financial data updates

[edit]

Current text: "The blockchain stock company announced a market capitalization of an estimated $30 million."

Proposed replacement: "The company's market capitalization reached approximately $220.12 million as of August 2025.[10] For fiscal year 2024, BTCS reported revenue of $4.1 million, representing a 204% increase from the previous year.[11] In 2025, the company raised approximately $207 million through its financing strategy.[12]"

Rationale: Market capitalization and financial data are outdated. Updated figures are supported by reliable financial sources.

---

4. Basic factual corrections

[edit]
  1. Remove December 2010 listing claim (incorrect).
  2. Correct Nasdaq listing year to 2014 per SEC filings.[13]
  3. Update business description to reflect transition from Bitcoin mining/e-commerce to Ethereum infrastructure.
  4. Update headquarters location to Silver Spring, MD.[14]
  5. Update market capitalization from $30M to current levels.[15]
