@LateNightCoffee: You've denied that the quotes around the single word "survived" are scare quotes. I think we disagree on the meaning of the term. I recommend you read the article on Scare quotes, but I'll avoid further use of the term in this edit.

This presumes that it's best that the quotes remain. As you know, the WP:ONUS is on addition of material. In this case, that's the quotes.

Most quotes surround several words, and the quotes seek to exactly convey the meaning captured in the distinctive phrasing of an expression. With individual words, there's generally no need for quotes, since the meaning of the word is in the dictionary. What value do the quotes here add? You mentioned "more context". So what context do the quotes currently provide that is needed to better understand whatever is conveyed beyond the dictionary definition? We're here to build an encyclopedia, and encyclopedias generally strive to avoid implied or insinuated context by making explicit whatever is implied or insinuated. So let's either make explicit whatever useful context you think you're providing here or, if that cannot be articulated, let's just leave them out. Thanks.

@Dotyoyo, That is the point of the quotes I used, "exactly convey the meaning captured in the distinctive phrasing of an expression". I quoted it because it is an unusual choice of word that didn't provide any detail. Several sources used that word, none from after 14 December 2025 gave details more than "survived". Going back to October 2023 he says he was in Tel Aviv in an apartment stairwell sheltering from rocket fire. But after 14 December 2025 it was unclear if he was in the places that got attacked more directly or watching online from outside the country, or somewhere in between. It's not ironic usage, I'm not claiming he's dead. Late Night Coffee (talk) 14:19, 28 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@LateNightCoffee. OK, thanks for the explanation. So the quotes convey that stating that he survived Oct 7, 2023 is sensationalist, given that he was in Tel Aviv at the time, rather than in the Gaza envelope, which the term implies. I imagine the wording comes from this interview @ 0:55. I think the right approach is to leave out mention of Oct 7, 2023 from the lead entirely—why spread sentationalism? I'd also suggest leaving out of the "Move to Australia" section, though it could me mentioned with context:

After he was grazed by a bullet in the Bondi Beach shooting, several media reports described him as having also "survived" the 7 October 2023 attacks in Israel, even though he was in Tel Aviv at the time of the attacks.[18]
