Speculation
[edit]This article is discussing a very speculative product. Nearly (if not all) the references simply reference the first Wall Street Journal article as their source for the existence of the product. Because this product is unannounced and all of the sources themselves see the prediction of the product as speculative, this article seems to violate part 5 of WP:CRYSTAL. Sorry, but I'm going to have to mark it as such. 158.222.170.250 (talk) 19:49, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yes. No guarantee that it will ever be a product (and even less of a guarantee that, if it becomes a product, it'll be called the "iCar"; the last iAnything Apple announced was iCloud, and the last hardware iAnything Apple announced was the iPad). Slightly more evidence that the project exists, although the articles about it cite (not-surprisingly-)anonymous sources, so there's no way to assess those sources' credibility (sometimes journalists have been fooled by bogus sources). Guy Harris (talk) 20:21, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
- The only evidence that actually exists points more to Apple developing a integrated navigation, entertainment, climate control system for other vehicle manufacturers which may be limited to self driving vehicle development.
- How that can be conflated with buying other manufacturers or building a car themselves is the product of a rumor mill drawing improper conclusions of private meetings and conversations.
- The root source material used for reference is a product of that. Mostly related to one person with a history of that.
- Many citations point to others that use the origin rumor with additional speculation. Most are opinion pages, not liable for printing facts.
- Apple does not have expertise in making cars and automobile manufacturers are not experts at electronics related to navigation control systems and more important, the integration of it. Apple has already the navigation infrastructure. For auto manufacturers, much of this type of Research and development is often subcontracted out to third parties or they acquire a expert in the field with a good research and development team.
- Perhaps citations from opinion pages should be banned. I can see how this can be manipulated for profit, and probably has. So there is motivation for it. I view this as a test case for wiki. TheMidnightEngineer (talk) 13:48, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
Despite the arguments made that articles like from the WSJ and others did not explicitly say "rumored" that doesn't mean they aren't reporting a rumor. I have reapplied the "Crystal" tag as the article clearly seems to violate part 5 of "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball". Of particular note, is the line "Speculation and rumor, even from reliable sources, are not appropriate encyclopedic content". Even if the reporters have some semblance of evidence, it's still speculative evidence and could hardly be thought to fit into "newly revealed products". Golmschenk (talk) 03:24, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Golmschenk: Hi. I think you may have misread the fifth list item under WP:CRYSTAL, which states
Although Wikipedia includes up-to-date knowledge about newly revealed products, short articles that consist only of product announcement information are not appropriate.
This article doesn't concern a product announcement. The hatnote tag you applied should only be used for unreferenced material; seeing as the article cites plentiful reliable sources in accordance with Wikipedia's verifiability policy, it's not appropriate here. WP:CRYSTAL also statesIt is appropriate to report discussion and arguments about the prospects for success of future proposals and projects or whether some development will occur, if discussion is properly referenced.
Please take a look at the deletion nominations linked at the top of this talk page. Thanks! —zziccardi (talk) 16:41, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Can include a picture of an apple with wheels?. On the other hand, think the more easy to make vehicle and transport in public transit is an autobalanced unicycle (that can also be called i-Unicycle or SmartUnicycle, for cities, while the car can be for longer distances.--Lagoset (talk) 16:39, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- How about a duck on wheels? Guy Harris (talk) 01:10, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Drive.ai acquisition & vehicleOS
[edit]Some new developments: Apple about to acquire/hire Drive.ai: https://www.macrumors.com/2019/06/06/apple-plans-to-acquihire-driveai-report/
Have read online somewhere that the OS for autonomous driving will be called vehicleOS, but this is probably just an unverified rumor.

- Knowing Apple, it's unlikely they'll name it vehicleOS. Thanoscar21 (talk) 15:08, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
Ferrari Luce
[edit]These are just unconfirmed hypotheses, but it could be a secret agreement between Apple or former Apple employees with Ferrari for the production of Ferrari Luce which could be the real "Apple iCar".Rapidfirreee (talk) 21:24, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
