Disease risk

"In humans" should be expanded based on recent literature. While anthocyanins' role in cancer risk reduction is debated, recent meta-analyses and reviews link ACN-rich foods to better gut health and lower disease risk. Also, the introduction's claim that "there is no conclusive evidence that anthocyanins affect human biology or disease" is misleading and should be reworded. You may want to check over the sources you are citing, two of them are unreliable. Source 1 says "This systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrated that dietary anthocyanin supplementation profoundly improves rodent models' gut health biomarkers (Fir/Bac and SCFAs)". This isn't human clinical trial data and we wouldn't cite this per WP:MEDANIMAL. Your third source is an unreliable MDPI journal that makes misleading claims from animal studies. Here are two recent systematic reviews on Anthocyanin , , no significant effects were observed and there were uncontrollable sources of heterogeneity. The conclusion was that high-quality clinical trials needed to be conducted. Veg Historian (talk) 17:37, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

2024 review

This review was added with text added to the article claiming "Two 2024 review articles examined the effect of anthocyanins on health based on animal studies and human clinical trials". There is no good human clinical trial data and this review did not cite any trials on anthocyanin intakes. Only two trials were mentioned in this review that were on pomegranate juice.

Even this review states in the conclusion that "Although significant research progress has been made in the application of anthocyanins for the treatment of metabolic diseases, there still exist numerous challenges and shortcomings. Firstly, clinical studies are relatively insufficient, especially large-scale, long-term clinical trials targeting different types of metabolic diseases. Although in vitro and animal experiments can provide initial clues and mechanisms, the complexity of human physiological structures and metabolic processes limits our in-depth understanding of the therapeutic effects of anthocyanins and their exact mechanisms in specific disease treatments."

There is no good clinical data specifically looking at anthocyanin intakes and this would be difficult per their low bioavailability. Veg Historian (talk) 20:12, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

With Special:Diff/1327908174, I reverted the edit claiming various anti-disease mechanisms of anthocyanins and their metabolites (or microbiome enzymes) from the two sources added. The first source proposing a role in metabolic syndrome is just extreme guessing and a wild wish-list from overinterpretation of primary research, while the second source is a compilation of unconvincing in vitro, animal, and early-stage, low-quality human research. Both dismal sources are at the bottom of evidence quality in WP:MEDASSESS, left pyramid.
