On the face of it, this is wrong, given that Ian Roberts (rugby league) came out in 1995. But maybe we're using "footballer" in the narrow sense of "soccer player".

So this clarifies it. Roberts was the first from any code (rugby league), while Brennan was the first soccer player.

But I'm still unclear as to why Brennan's revelation seems to have been virtually ignored, yet Josh Cavallo got a heap of publicity when he came out two years after Brennan. -- Jack of Oz ^{[pleasantries]} 04:02, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
