Homo diluvii testis

Homo diluvii testis cant be a synonym of Andrias scheuchzeri, since Scheuchzer identified the remains as belonging to a man. The expression Homo diluvii testis (The man who was witness of the Deluge) is just the title of the book, which must be taken as if it were the headline of a newspaper news, not as a taxonomic identification.

On the other hand, there cant be synonyms (or species names) prior to 1758, date of the publication of the tenth edition of the work of Linnaeus Systema Naturae, origin of modern zoological nomenclature. --PePeEfe (talk) 18:11, 13 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

It's more complicated. That it was identified as a man is irrelevant. Failed identifications do not make a name invalid. Homo diluvii testis (et theoskopos added in Greek, so the fellow had "seen God") would by the standards of the time have counted as an acceptable descriptive species name. Is there a source for the interpretation of the holotype as a trampled child, or does this originate with Wikipedia? If there is a source, I think it needs to be cited.
