COI edit request: updates and corrections with independent sources

I am filing this on behalf of the article subject, who supplied a biographical profile document. Per WP:COI I am not editing the article directly. Every change proposed below is supported by a source independent of the subject — university news offices, trade press and news outlets. Claims in the supplied document that I could not source independently are listed at the end and are not proposed.

1. Lead: "founding director" is out of date

The lead and infobox state that Sheth "is the founding Director of the Artificial Intelligence Institute of South Carolina". The institute's own leadership page describes him as "founding director of the institute (2018-2023)" and lists Homayoun Valafar as the current director; a September 2024 Molinaroli College news item likewise identifies Valafar as director. This should be in the past tense.

Please replace the first three sentences of the lead with:

Amit Sheth is an Indian-American computer scientist who is a professor of computer science and engineering at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina, where he holds the NCR Chair.<ref name="USC_faculty_profile"/> He was the founding director of the Artificial Intelligence Institute of South Carolina (AIISC) until 2023.<ref name="Artificial_Intelligence_Institute"/><ref name="AIISC_leadership">{{cite web |title=Leadership & Administration |url=https://research.cec.sc.edu/aii/leadershipandstaff |publisher=Artificial Intelligence Institute, University of South Carolina |access-date=2026-08-13}}</ref> From 2007 to 2019 he was the LexisNexis Ohio Eminent Scholar and executive director of the Ohio Center of Excellence in Knowledge-enabled Computing (Kno.e.sis) at Wright State University,<ref name="AAAI_WSU"/> and from 1994 to 2007 he was a professor of computer science at the University of Georgia.<ref name="WSU_computer_command"/>

Notes:

• "Executive director" rather than "director": the Wright State newsroom states "Sheth arrived at Wright State in 2007 as the LexisNexis Ohio Eminent Scholar, a professor of computer science and engineering, and the executive director of Kno.e.sis, the Ohio Center for Excellence in Knowledge-enabled Computing." The citation currently attached to that sentence points at a headshot page, which does not verify it.
• University of Georgia dates, same source: "He joined the faculty at the University of Georgia in 1994 and Wright State in 2007."
• Corresponding infobox change: | title = NCR Chair and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, dropping "Founding Director of the AI Institute of South Carolina".

2. Lead: refresh the citation metrics

The figures are stale. Google Scholar, accessed 13 August 2026, shows 66,542 citations and an h-index of 124. Please change "over 64,800 publications" to "over 66,500 publications", "h-index of 122" to "h-index of 124", and update the access-date on ref name="Sheth_Google_Scholar".

3. Proposed new "Career" section, to follow "Education"

The article has no account of his career before 2007, and mentions the University of Georgia only in passing under Entrepreneurship. Suggested wording:

In 2007 he moved to Wright State University as the LexisNexis Ohio Eminent Scholar, a professor of computer science and engineering, and executive director of Kno.e.sis, the Ohio Center of Excellence in Knowledge-enabled Computing.<ref name="AAAI_WSU"/> By 2018 the center had about 75 researchers, including 15 faculty members.<ref name="AAAS_WSU"/>

Sheth joined the University of South Carolina in 2019 as founding director of its university-wide Artificial Intelligence Institute, announced in May 2019 with $1 million in annual funding for five years.<ref name="USC_AI_2019">{{cite web |title=USC to open "smart data" artificial intelligence institute |url=https://www.sc.edu/uofsc/posts/2019/05/ai_institute.php |publisher=University of South Carolina |date=2019-05-20 |access-date=2026-08-13}}</ref> By 2023 the institute had more than 40 researchers, including nearly 30 doctoral students funded through research grants.<ref name="USC_AI_growth"/> He was succeeded as director by Homayoun Valafar.<ref name="AIISC_leadership"/>

The Wright State AAAS reference already cited in the Awards section would need the name AAAS_WSU so it can be reused; it contains "Kno.e.sis' 75 researchers include 15 faculty members from the College of Computer Science and Engineering."

4. Entrepreneurship: two factual corrections

(a) The article dates Semagix to 2004; it was 2002, and the later history is missing. The Gilbane Advisor reported on 29 September 2002: "Following a merger between Protege Ltd and Voquette Inc., a new enterprise software company called Semagix is being launched." Please replace "Taalee became Voquette after merger in 2002, and then Semagix in 2004." with:

(b) Cognovi Labs: co-founder and licensing detail. The Dayton Daily News of 24 May 2017, already cited in the article, states "Amit Sheth, left, and James Mainord, co-founders of Cognovi Labs", and the Wright State newsroom reports that the university's technology transfer office "has since exclusively licensed Twitris to Cognovi Labs Inc." Suggested replacement for the "In 2016, Cognovi Labs was founded ... He also served as its chief innovator and serves on the board." passage:

In the fall of 2016 Sheth co-founded Cognovi Labs in Dayton, Ohio with James Mainord, based on the Twitris technology developed at the Kno.e.sis Center and exclusively licensed from Wright State University.<ref name="DDN_cognovi"/><ref name="WSU_commercial_success">{{cite web |title=Commercial success |url=https://webapp2.wright.edu/web1/newsroom/2017/10/12/commercial-success/ |publisher=Wright State University Newsroom |date=2017-10-12 |access-date=2026-08-13}}</ref>

5. Awards: the Trustees' Award is missing its year

The bullet reads "Received the Trustees Award for Faculty Excellence, the highest award given by Wright State University", with no year and a dead citation (wright.edu/ctl/faculty/awards/). The Wright State newsroom of 5 January 2018 states: "In 2010, Sheth received the Trustees Award for Faculty Excellence, the highest award given by the university". Please replace with:

• Trustees' Award for Faculty Excellence, the highest award given by Wright State University, 2010.<ref name="AAAI_WSU"/>

The existing [[Trustees]] wikilink is a mislink to the general article on trustees and should be removed.

6. Two broken citations

• The ACM Fellow bullet cites http://tab.computer.org/tcsvc/activities/, which is the IEEE TCSVC activities page — an apparent copy-paste from the bullet below it. The correct target is ACM Awards - Amit Sheth. The second citation on that bullet is credited to "University of South Carolina" but points to awards.acm.org; the author should be ACM.
• The Springer book series citation in the "Editing" section points to an Amazon product listing while naming IGI Global as the publisher. It should cite the series itself.

Claims from the supplied document that I did not include

For transparency, these appear in the profile document but I could not verify them against any independent source, so I am not proposing them:

• "Elected fellow of five major professional societies." Only four are ever named (IEEE, ACM, AAAS, AAAI) — by his USC faculty page, by his IEEE Computer Society profile, and by the document itself. The only trace of a fifth is an undated entry in the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association's own fellows directory, with no secondary coverage.
• ezDI as a company he founded. ezDI's own "About Us" page names different co-founders, and Sheth's own site lists ezDI under advisory and board roles rather than founder roles.
• A meeting with the Indian Prime Minister; research funding totals (>$34 million); numbers of doctoral advisees; being founding co-editor-in-chief of Web Intelligence; and various comparative claims about his centres. None appear in an independent source.

Separately, the IBM Faculty Award 2004 bullet already in the article is cited only to Sheth's personal homepage, and may need a better source or removal. Khvedant02 (talk) 12:32, 13 August 2026 (UTC)

7. Addition: Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO)

Adding to the request above. Since January 2026 Sheth has been founding director of the Indian AI Research Organisation, which has had sustained coverage in the Indian business and technology press. This is currently absent from the article entirely.

Suggested paragraph, to close the proposed Career section:

Given this, the lead sentence proposed in item 1 above should also gain a clause: "...and since 2026 he has been the founding director of the Indian AI Research Organisation in India."

Notes for the reviewing editor:

• Business Today (25 February 2026) and CIOL (29 June 2026) both give his title as "Founding Director, Indian AI Research Organisation". Careers360 (30 July 2026) gives it as "founding director and CEO". I have proposed the more conservative "founding director"; an editor may prefer to note both.
• I have deliberately not cited iairo.ai, the organisation's own website, or social media posts about the launch, including one from the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The independent coverage above establishes the same facts, and per WP:RSPTWITTER and WP:SELFPUB those would be weaker sources.
• Several widely syndicated items about the 30 January 2026 launch (ANI/Business Standard, PR Newswire, Analytics Insight, the IBM newsroom release) are press releases rather than independent reporting, so I have left them out as well.
