Uncited data in the last paragraph of the (Top) segment of the article.

[edit]

The last paragraph of the (Top) section has no citations (except for the first sentence) at all and that has bugged me for months.

"Under Hitler's leadership and racist ideology, the Nazi regime was responsible for the genocide of an estimated six million Jews and millions of other victims, whom he and his followers deemed Untermenschen (lit. 'subhumans') or socially undesirable. Hitler and the Nazis were also responsible for the deliberate killing of an estimated 19.3 million civilians and prisoners of war. In addition, 28.7 million soldiers and civilians died as a result of military action in the European theatre. The number of civilians killed during World War II was unprecedented in warfare, and the casualties make it the deadliest conflict in history."

Now, this is for the most part fine since they have hyperlinks to other pages which have sources. However, this part in particular has bugged me:

"Hitler and the Nazis were also responsible for the deliberate killing of an estimated 19.3 million civilians and prisoners of war."

Another article contains an estimate of at least 13 million victims and another for 17 million under broadest definition. However, it nowhere mentions the estimate of 19.3 million victims.

I don't think that it's completely unlikely, after all, the Third Reich had a lot of power, however, I haven't been able to find any sources that mentioned them killing 19.3 million people besides Wikipedia itself, and for that reason, I feel like saying "Hitler and the Nazis were also responsible for the deliberate killing of an estimated 13–17 million civilians and prisoners of war" would be better, unless I'm stupid and/or missing something. Read Adolf Hitler#The Holocaust. The estimate is sourced there. The lead does not need citations per MOS:LEADCITE. StephenMacky1 (talk) 10:31, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
