Robert Fyvolent is an American film producer and entertainment lawyer. With David Dinerstein and Joseph Patel he produced Summer of Soul (2021), the first film Questlove directed, built from footage of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film in March 2022.[1][2]
Fyvolent is from Tampa, Florida.[1] He studied political science at Tulane University and law at South Texas College of Law and Loyola Law School.[3] He was counsel at Disney and Sony Pictures Entertainment, then ran business and legal affairs at Newmarket Films.[4] He also shares a writing credit on Untraceable (2008).[4]
Around 2006 a friend told Fyvolent about Hal Tulchin's unreleased footage of the festival.[5][3] Some fifteen years later that footage became Summer of Soul. The film also won Fyvolent a Grammy Award for Best Music Film in 2022.[3][6]
