Peter Joseph Fick (December 12, 1913 – August 10, 1980) was an American competition swimmer and former world record-holder in two events.
Fick was born December 12, 1913,
Fick represented the United States at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany.[1] He was the world record-holder and pre-race favorite, but finished sixth overall in the event final of the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 59.7 seconds.[1][2] In 1978 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.[3]
In the WWII era, Fick served in the U.S. Navy training officers to swim.[4]
Fick was married to New York radio actress Bess Johnson on June 10, 1941 in Elkins, West Virginia.[5][6] Around April, 1940, had previously married Donna Damerel, a well-known radio announcer of the Mryt and Marge radio show, died in childbirth on February 14, 1941.[7][8]
He worked as a Radio actor in New York.[9]
In the 1950's Fick relocated to Miami, Florida where he taught swimming and managed recreational programs at area hotels.[10] He died August 10, 1980 in Miami.[10]
