Maju Forest is a forest in Clementi, Singapore.[1] In August 2026, Minister of State for National Development and Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan announced the planned development of the forest along with Gillman Barracks into housing.[2][3] The plans led to widespread public opposition against the redevelopment.[4][5][6]
History
[edit]On 10 July 2026, Singapore's Housing and Development Board (HDB) announced the it would build new homes in Maju Forest at Sunset Way in Clementi, and in Gillman Barracks.[7]
Following the announcement of its redevelopment, over 41,000 people signed a petition against the plans.[6]
On 4 August 2026, Tan said the plans were not fixed.[7]
Natural history

[edit]Maju Forest is home to over 100 species of wildlife, including 6 species of conservation significance, including the straw-headed bulbul, buffy fish-owl, changeable hawk-eagle, oriental magpie-robin, bamboo bat and long-tailed macaque.[1][8]
