Luxcara is a Hamburg-based independent asset manager working on energy infrastructure across Europe.[4] Founded in 2009, the firm advises institutional investors, primarily insurance companies and pension funds, through equity and debt investments in clean energy infrastructure projects. The company has remained fully management-owned since its founding.[5][6][7] As of 2026, the assets under management are around 7.5 billion euros.[8]

Luxcara was founded in May 2009 by Alexandra Bernstorff and Kathrin Oechtering,[9][10] In 2010, Luxcara launched its first institutional fund, Flaveo S.A., Sicav-Fis, a Luxembourg-domiciled vehicle investing in solar assets.[11] In 2011, Marc Brehm and Philip Sander joined Luxcara and later became managing directors alongside Bernstorff.[12]

In 2019, Luxcara acquired the Önusberget onshore wind farm in northern Sweden as part of the Markbygden cluster.[13] In 2024, Luxcara received a 1.5 GW offshore wind concession for the project Waterekke in the German North Sea.[14] Also in 2024, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action awarded Luxcara and its partner Hamburger Energiewerke funding for the Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH).[15][1]

In June 2025, Luxcara, together with the Swiss energy company BKW AG and the German municipal utility Trianel, announced the development of the Waltrop Battery Park in North Rhine-Westphalia.[16][17] Luxcara originally signed a preferred supplier agreement with the Chinese manufacturer Ming Yang Smart Energy in July 2024 for 16 turbines of up to 18.5 MW each for its 300 MW Waterkant offshore wind project in the German North Sea.[18] After winning the larger 1.5 GW Waterekke project in late summer 2024, Luxcara signed a capacity reservation agreement with Siemens Gamesa in August 2025 for 97 turbines of 15.5 MW each (type SG 15.0-285 DD) for Waterekke. To enable closer coordination between the two neighbouring projects, Luxcara additionally reserved 19 turbines of the same type from Siemens Gamesa for Waterkant, replacing the earlier Ming Yang agreement, which had since lapsed.[4][19][20][21]

Luxcara is an asset manager focused on energy infrastructure in Europe.[22] It advises closed-ended infrastructure funds targeting institutional investors such as insurance companies and pension funds, domiciled under Luxembourg law.[23]

Projects

  • Önusberget Wind Farm, Sweden: Acquired in 2019, the Önusberget wind farm is part of the Markbygden cluster in northern Sweden. It includes more than 750 MW of installed capacity.[24]
  • Waterkant Offshore Wind, German North sea: Luxcara is the owner of the Waterkant offshore wind project in the German North Sea near to the island of Borkum, with an approximate capacity of 300 MW.[25][21][26]
  • Waterekke Offshore Wind, German North sea: In 2024, Luxcara was awarded the 1.5 GW Waterekke offshore wind concession in the German North Sea. As of 2026, commissioning is targeted for 2029, with turbines to be supplied by Siemens Gamesa.[27][28]
  • Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub, Hamburg: The Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH) is a joint project by Luxcara (which owns 74.9% of the share)[29] and state-owned utility Hamburger Energiewerke at the site of the former Moorburg coal power plant.[1] A 100 MW electrolyzer is planned to produce green hydrogen.[30] The project received IPCEI funding from the German federal government and the city of Hamburg in 2024.[15]
  • Waltrop Battery Park, Waltrop: Luxcara is developing a 520 MW stake in the Waltrop Battery Park in North Rhine-Westphalia alongside companies BKW AG and Trianel. The park's first expansion phase targets 900 MW/1,800 MWh. The project is located on a brownfield site originally designated for the expansion of the Trianel Lünen coal-fired power plant.[16][17][31]
