Hariram Das was one of the earliest patriarchs of the extended Munshi family of Kadirpara and Chougachi. He was the eldest son of Majumdar Rajiv Lochan Das and Shivani Thakurani. Das was the elder brother of Ramram Das and Munshi Balaram Das.[2] He belonged to the Das family belonging to the Barendra Kayastha lineage, which originated from Mahatma Narahari Das (also known as Naradev Das).[2][3] Satish Chandra Mitra, in his book Jessore-Khulnar Itihas (History of Jessore-Khilna), described Hariram Das as a man of exceptionally large stature and great physical strength, similar to that of his younger brothers, which grabbed the attention of Raja Sitaram Ray, the independent Hindu monarch who revalted against the Mughal Empire.[2]
Santanu Ghosh, in his book Munshianay Chollish Purush, states that Hariram Das renamed Kadirpara as Harirpara, although Kadirpara continued to be used as its popular name. According to Ghosh, the settlement came to be known as Harirpara in 1793, following the introduction of the Permanent Settlement under Lord Cornwallis, and the name was derived from Hariram Das.[4]
Although his youngest brother, Munshi Balaram Das, was childless, the descendants of Hariram Das along with Ramram Das continued to serve as the custodians and holders of the properties of the Kadirpara Estate, with the title of Munshi awarded by Raja Sitaram Ray.[5][4] Hariram Das was succeeded by his son, Premnarayan Munshi.[6]
