Fernando is a Spanish and Portuguese given name and a surname common in Spain, Portugal and former Spanish or Portuguese colonies in Latin America, Africa and Asia (such as the Philippines, India, and Sri Lanka). It is the most used surname in Sri Lanka. Fernando is a common surname among the Tamil speaking Paravars. It is equivalent to the Germanic given name Ferdinand, with an original meaning of "adventurous, bold journey".[1][2]
