Elisa Sunga

Elisa Sunga is an American baker, event organizer, and author. She is the founder of CAKE PICNIC, a touring cake-sharing event that began in San Francisco in 2024, and the author of the 2026 cookbook Cake Picnic: Recipes for the Love of Cake & Friends.[1][2]
Early life
[edit]Sunga was born in the Philippines and grew up in Baguio; her family moved to Antioch, California, in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area in 2001.[3][4]
Career
[edit]Sunga worked for about a decade as a user-experience program manager at Google, reaching her tenth year with the company in 2025 before leaving in 2026 to focus on Cake Picnic.[1][2][4] She took up baking during the COVID-19 pandemic and shared her work online under the name "saltedrye".[1][4] In 2021 she co-founded the Bucket List Bake Club, a virtual baking community.[3]
In April 2024 she organized the first Cake Picnic at Potrero del Sol Park in San Francisco, an event built on the rule that every guest brings a whole cake to share.[5][1] It grew into an international event, with editions across the United States and in London and Australia.[5][2][6]
Her debut cookbook, Cake Picnic: Recipes for the Love of Cake & Friends, was published by Chronicle Books on May 19, 2026.[2][7]
