EP Energy Transition (EPETr) is a Czech energy holding company based in Prague and part of EP Group. It owns the German energy companies LEAG and MIBRAG Energy Group, both of which are involved in lignite mining and electricity generation.[1][2]
The current EPETr structure dates from a 2023 reorganisation of EP Group's German coal businesses. The company is also involved in projects intended to replace part of the existing coal-fired generation as Germany phases out lignite.[3][4]
History
[edit]The company was incorporated in 2021 as Mirtheaven a.s.. It was renamed LEAG Innovative Energy a.s. in January 2023 and adopted the name EP Energy Transition in October that year.[2]
In 2023, EP Group began transferring its German lignite interests from EPH to EPETr.[4] EPETr acquired a 20% stake in LEAG from and EPH later transferred its 50% stake, bringing EPETr's holding in LEAG to 70%.[5]
In March 2025, EPETr bought PPF's remaining 30% stake and became the sole owner of LEAG.[6][7]
EPH transferred MIBRAG Energy Group to EPETr in October 2025.[8]
Operations
[edit]EPETr's main businesses are in Germany through LEAG and MIBRAG Energy Group. The two companies operate lignite mines and power-generation assets in eastern Germany.[1]
Plans announced in 2023 included more than 7 GW of renewable-energy capacity and large battery-storage projects. New power plants designed to use hydrogen in the future were also planned. Total investment was initially estimated at around €10 billion.[5]
