YUNG DSA (born Harsh Vijay Machare) is an Indian rapper and hip-hop artist from Pune, Maharashtra. He gained wider recognition following the release of his breakthrough Marathi-Hindi single "Yeda Yung"[1] and subsequently appeared as a contestant on the reality television show Bigg Boss 20.[2]

Early life and background

[edit]

YUNG DSA was raised in Yerwada, Pune, Maharashtra. He started rapping around the age of 12 while balancing his musical interests with employment at a business process outsourcing (BPO) call centre to support his family.[1]

Music career

[edit]

Early work

[edit]

In the early stages of his music career, he released the singles "Yung Sitar" in 2021 and "Sangeet" in 2023. His initial projects blended traditional Indian sitar instrumentation with contemporary hip-hop rhythms.[1]

Yeda Yung

[edit]

In September 2024, YUNG DSA released "Yeda Yung", produced by YD (Year Down), which served as his commercial breakthrough. By May 2025, Rolling Stone India reported that the track had accumulated over 58 million views on YouTube, 22 million streams on Spotify, and was used in approximately four million Instagram Reels. Following the commercial success of the track, he resigned from his BPO position to pursue music full-time.[1]

Maaf Kar

[edit]

In May 2025, he released "Maaf Kar", a Marathi rap single produced by Cosmo Drop, marking his major-label debut with Sony Music India. Coverage highlighted the track's focus on personal struggles, self-reflection, and the realities of sudden recognition.[1]

Later releases

[edit]

Following "Maaf Kar", YUNG DSA released the singles "Chala Kalti" and "Rade Rapate". In August 2026, he released "Fachadi", an intense bilingual Marathi-Hindi track combining Pune street rap with traditional percussion, which received critical attention for its vocal delivery and production.[3]

Musical style

[edit]

YUNG DSA's music is characterised by a fusion of Marathi and Hindi lyricism, incorporating colloquial slang and narratives rooted in Pune street culture. His production frequently integrates classical and folk Indian instruments into modern trap and hip-hop beats, exploring themes of personal resilience, relationships, betrayal, and socio-economic ambition.[4]

Television

[edit]

Bigg Boss 20

[edit]

In September 2026, YUNG DSA entered the reality television series Bigg Boss 20, introduced as Pune-based rapper Harsh Vijay Machare.[2][5] During the opening days of the season, he competed in the inaugural captaincy task against fellow contestants Aasif Khan and Kushal Tanwar (Gullu), winning the challenge to become the first captain of the season.[2] Later in the season, he was involved in a captaincy-related task that resulted in the elimination of another contestant's lifeline.[6]
