Veer Arjun Joshi (born 29 May 2007) is an American-born professional footballer who plays as a forward for Indian club Samaleswari SC. He was born and trained in the United States, Joshi moved to India to pursue his senior career as an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), quickly rising to prominence following a breakout performance in the 2026 Durand Cup.[1]
Early Life and Youth Career
[edit]Joshi was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised in California. He holds United States citizenship and an Overseas Citizen of India card due to his Indian heritage.He developed his youth football career within the American soccer pyramid. He notably played for the youth academy of Sacramento Republic FC, a club competing in the USL Championship known for its prominent youth development program.
Senior Club Career
[edit]In 2026, Joshi signed with Samaleswari SC, an Odisha-based club playing in the domestic Indian circuit. His registration was completed under the OCI player quota guidelines.Joshi achieved widespread recognition during the group stage of the 2026 Durand Cup. On August 9, 2026, during a match against historic Indian Super League (ISL) club Mohammedan Sporting at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, Joshi came off the bench as a second-half substitute. In the 81st minute, with the score tied at 2–2, he executed a spectacular long-range free-kick that beat the opposing goalkeeper. The goal secured a historic 3–2 upset victory for Samaleswari SC and made Joshi one of the youngest overseas-born players to score in the tournament's modern history.
Playing Style
[edit]Joshi primarily operates as a center-forward or secondary striker. He is noted for his physical presence, tactical spatial awareness developed in US academies, and exceptional dead-ball accuracy, as demonstrated by his striking ability from long-range set pieces.
