The Uganda Cycling Association (UCA), also referred to in some of its own materials as the Uganda Cycling Federation, is the national governing body for the sport of cycling in Uganda. It is registered with Uganda's National Council of Sports (NCS) and coordinates the sport's national teams and competitions.[1] Uganda is among the national federations registered with the International Cycling Union (UCI) through the African Cycling Confederation, and Ugandan riders regularly score UCI ranking points through the country's national championships.[2]
Governance
[edit]The association's president is Sam Mahaba Muwonge, with Yusuf Mbazira serving as general secretary.[1] As of 2025, the UCA coordinated 32 affiliated cycling clubs across Uganda.[3] In January 2025, the UCA entered a three-year partnership with Moonlight Events to organise a calendar of domestic and international competitions running from February to December each year, including regional "bike study" events held in Uganda's central, eastern and northern regions.[3]
International representation
[edit]The UCA fields national teams at continental and world cycling championships. Cyclist Charles Kagimu, the association's most prominent competitor and the reigning African road time trial champion, has represented Uganda at events including the road race at the 2024 Summer Olympics.[4]
In September 2025, the UCA sent an 11-member national team, headed by Kagimu in the elite men's category, to the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda – the first time the world road championships had been held on the African continent.[5] The team, which also included under-23 and under-18 riders, was formally flagged off by the NCS at its Lugogo headquarters ahead of the championship.[6]
The UCA also selected the national team for the cycling road race events at the 2023 African Games, held in 2024 in Accra, Ghana, where Kagimu served as team captain.[7]
