Two Rivers State Recreation Area (SRA) is a state park in eastern Nebraska, United States. The recreation area is located along the Platte River, approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south of Venice, or about 30 miles (48.2 km) west of Omaha. The recreation area is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
The area is one of the most popular State Recreation Areas in the state. The recreation area offers many features such as:
Camping
[edit]There are 7 campgrounds located within the SRA: Cottonwood, Fawn Meadows, Goldenrod, Lakeside, Oak Grove, Riverside, and Whitetail. All campgrounds except Riverside and Whitetail offer camping pads with electrical hookups totaling 167 pads. Fawn Meadows Campground offers individual water hookups in addition to electrical hookups. Riverside Campground offers 38 camping pads without electrical hookups. Whitetail Campground offers 25 basic equestrian sites and 10 12'x12' paneled horse pens.[1]
There is a sewage dumping area located at the south end of the park.
Equestrian Trails
[edit]Two Rivers SRA has 2 miles (3.2 km) of equestrian trails plus additional horseback riding on the 342 acres (138 ha) adjacent wildlife management area (WMA). Horseback riding on the WMA is allowed February 1 to August 31.
Fishing
[edit]Two Rivers SRA has seven sandpit ponds, all of which can be fished. Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Channel Catfish, Black Bullhead, and Common Carp can be found in all lakes except Lake No. 5, which is stocked with Rainbow Trout, Smallmouth Bass, and Yellow Perch.
Lake No.5 has special regulations. Typically, from March 1st to June 30th, a daily trout tag is required to fish. This tag can only be purchased from the park office. The cost of a tag is $6 as of 2026. Each angler may purchase up to three tags per day, each of which allows for the harvest of four trout. No boating is allowed on Lake No.5.
Hiking
[edit]The park has several hiking trails, many of which are on the WMA portion of the park.
Hunting
[edit]Adjacent to the park is the Two Rivers Wildlife Management Area (WMA), which is open to hunting during open seasons unless otherwise posted. Only the use of archery and shotguns loaded with non-toxic shot are allowed. The use of hunting blinds is allowed, but permanent blinds are not allowed. All temporary blinds must be removed from the area at the end of each day.
Species avaliable are waterfowl, turkey, bobwhite quail, ring-necked pheasant, gray squirrel, cottontail rabbit, and whitetail deer. Deer may only be taken by archery.
Kayaking/Canoeing
[edit]Kayaking/Canoeing is allowed on the Platte River and all lakes except Lake No.5.
Lodging
[edit]In addition to camping, Two Rivers State Recreation Area offers 10 Union Pacific cabooses that have been remodeled for park lodging. Each caboose is air-conditioned, sleeps six people, and is equipped with a modern shower and bathroom. Each caboose is fitted with a kitchen and dining area featuring a table, four chairs, a two-seater bench, a stovetop, a microwave, a mini refrigerator, a sink, and a few cabinets. Outside, there is a deck with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring.[2]
Picnicing
[edit]There are three day-use areas perfect for picnicking or grilling. The park has a picnic shelter located north of the Lakeside Campground that seats up to 24 people. Just north of the swim beach is another day-use area with picnic tables and grills. The third day-use area is located along the Platte River with two designated concrete padded areas. Each of these pads has two picnic tables, a large charcoal grill, and a fire pit.
Swimming
[edit]An unsupervised swimming beach is available on Lake No.4. It is open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
