Tonherd (legally Tonherd OG) is an Austrian recording studio, independent record label and music publisher based in the Alsergrund district of Vienna.[1] The company was founded in 2018[2] and is run by Constantin Kaiser, Florian Koch and Valentin Bröderbauer.[1]

History

[edit]

Tonherd was founded in 2018 by Kaiser, Koch and Bröderbauer, who also perform together in the Vienna band Now.[2][1] Within the company, Koch is responsible for recording, mixing and mastering, Kaiser for releases, distribution and promotion, and Bröderbauer for songwriting, workshops and organisation.[1]

The label was releasing music by 2021, when the Viennese funk and soul band Mashiko issued its debut single "License For My Life" on Tonherd Music.[3] In 2025, the SKE fund of the Austrian collecting society austro mechana supported Tonherd's productions and activities.[4]

The studio's work on the 2021 album Teilzeitromantik by the Austrian singer Josh. included production and recording by Koch, who also played drums, bass and keyboards on the album, with engineering by Kaiser and Bröderbauer.[5] The album received a nomination for the Tonstudiopreis "Best Sound" at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards 2022, with Koch, Kaiser and Bröderbauer credited for recording and Koch for mixing and artistic production.[6]

Koch produced the Poxrucker Sisters singles "NA" (2023, featuring Katharina Straßer) and "L.I.E.B.E." (2025), the latter of which he also co-wrote and which appeared on the band's album DNA.[7][8] On Ina Regen's 2026 album Revolution der Liebeslieder, Bröderbauer co-wrote and co-produced "Dein Dorf", and the three founders played on several tracks, among them "Marmeladenglaslmoment" (Koch on drums, Kaiser on bass, Bröderbauer on guitars).[9][10]

Additional recording for the Dropkick Murphys album For the People (2025) took place at Tonherd in Vienna.[11]

In August 2026, Warner Music Austria and ADA Central Europe, the distribution and label-services arm of Warner Music Central Europe, signed a distribution and studio partnership with Tonherd. Under the agreement, the Warner units handle global distribution for Tonherd's releases, and Warner Music Austria's local roster gains access to the Tonherd studio.[1][12][13][14][15] The first release under the partnership was by the pop singer Michael Russ, followed by releases from artists including ams, Fräulein Peter and Now.[1]

The studio is located in Vienna's 9th district and, according to the company, covers 350 square metres with two control rooms.[1]
