The Sunseeker S4 is a robotic lawn mower developed by Sunseeker, a Chinese manufacturer of lawn care equipment. It uses a 360-degree LiDAR sensor combined with an AI camera for navigation, and does not require perimeter wires or an external RTK antenna.[1] It is designed for lawns up to 0.25 acres (1,000 m2) .[1]
The S4 was introduced at the Equip Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky, in October 2025 as the company's first LiDAR-equipped mower for the United States market, and was later named a CES Innovation Awards 2026 Honoree in the Home Appliances category.[2][3]
Tom's Guide tested the S4 over a one-month period and reported that the LiDAR-based navigation allowed the mower to operate under tree cover and in shaded areas where GPS-based mowers may struggle.[1] The reviewer noted that the S4 cannot cut grass directly adjacent to walls or fences because of a 4.3-inch (11 cm) gap between the housing edge and the blades, requiring periodic manual trimming of edges.[1] T3 included the S4 in its 2026 smart garden coverage.[4]
Design
[edit]The S4 weighs 26 pounds (12 kg) and measures 25.1 by 16.6 by 10.8 inches (64 cm × 42 cm × 27 cm).[1] It has a cutting width of 7 inches (18 cm) and a cutting height adjustable from 1.6 to 3.2 inches (4.1 to 8.1 cm).[1] The mower is powered by a 20-volt lithium battery providing a runtime of about 90 minutes per charge, and is rated IPX6 for water resistance.[1] It operates at approximately 60 dB.[1]
The mower maps the lawn through a companion mobile app and cuts in parallel lines rather than random patterns, with a floating cutting deck that adjusts to uneven terrain.[1] An alternating-direction "traceless" mode prevents visible mowing lines between sessions.[1] The S4 can handle slopes of up to 42 percent (approximately 22 degrees).[1]
The sensing system uses what Sunseeker calls its "AllSense" 3D architecture, powered by a 10 TOPS processor for real-time perception and obstacle avoidance.[2]
Reception
[edit]Tom's Guide reviewer Jason Cipriani called the S4 easy to set up and said it produced a clean, consistent cut after fine-tuning the settings.[1] Cipriani reported that after a heavy rainstorm with standing water, the mower temporarily stopped working and required removing the battery to dry out, despite its IPX6 rating.[1] The review concluded that the S4 "did not disappoint" and that the reviewer's yard had not "looked this good in years," while noting the edge-cutting gap as a drawback shared with other robot mowers.[1]
