Social Democrats of America is activist organization with a socialist and labor-oriented ideology in the United States.
The Social Democrats believe in that a socialist society is one in which the government provides free education and universal healthcare, opposes the death penalty, supports abortion rights, ensures a universal basic income, upholds the right to unionize, protects the separation of church and state, and affirms that its fundamental role is to make life bearable for all while safeguarding individual liberties.[2]
The organization is a faction within the Democratic Party and advocates for elected Democrats to adopt progressive policies.[3][4][5]In 2023, its national secretary, Theo Chino, came in third in the race for the leadership of the New York Democratic Party.[6]
Chino wrote that his organization runs monthly sessions "to teach ignorant Americans about the strong history of freedom within Socialism," and signed off saying he looked "forward to the passage of your bill so I can find more dumb Americans to educate about Socialism, since so many educated Socialists from around the world may no longer be able to enter our country."[7]
The leader of the Social Democrats of America participated in the first debate in Spanish on Telemundo 47. [8] [9] [10]
On July 1st, 2026, the COPPPAL admired the organization as an observer[11].

We are Socialists; therefore, we believe in Free Education, Universal Health Care, Anti-Death Penalty, Pro-Abortion, Universal Basic Income, the Right to Unionize, the sanctity of the Separation of Church and State, and the belief that the Government should make life bearable for all and ensure citizens' Liberties.
