Sinikka Monte (born 2002) is a Finnish-South African singer-songwriter based in Austria.[1] She is known for participating in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2026.[2]
Early life
[edit]Monte was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, to a South African father and a Finnish mother and moved to Sankt Pölten, Austria, at the age of four. She is also of Italian descent through her grandfather.[3][4] At the age of five she discovered ballet and continued with it through her teens.[5] She started writing songs at 12 and discovered a passion for performing.[2] At the age of 16, she decided to pursue music as a career,[4] and at the age of 18, she received the Youngster of Arts Prize from her hometown.[6]
Career
[edit]Monte's debut single "It Ain't You" was released on 15 November 2019.[5] The song was later featured in the series Love Is Blind.[4] She also received the Joe Zawinul "Z" Award around this time.[4] After releasing her second single "Play Pretend", she began working with her producer, Florian Spies.[7] Monte reached the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition in 2020. She appeared on the RTL show I Can See Your Voice[6] and in the same year, she received a prize at the Songwriting Awards of the Austrian Composers Association.[4][8]
In 2024, Monte submitted her single "Hers Too" for Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), where it made the top 10 submissions but was not selected as one of the competing entries.[7] In 2026, she returned to UMK with the pop ballad "Ready to Leave" and was selected as one of the competing artists.[7][9] She received 97 points total and finished fifth.[10]
