Rukmini Iyer is a British food writer, chef, and cookbook author. She is best known for her bestselling Roasting Tin series of cookbooks, which popularised one-tin and one-pan cooking in the United Kingdom. Her books have sold more than 1.75 million copies worldwide.[1][2]
Early life and education
[edit]Iyer was born in Cambridgeshire, England. She studied English Literature at the University of Edinburgh before moving to London to study law.[3] After training and working as a lawyer, she decided to pursue a career in food and subsequently retrained as a chef.[4]
Career
[edit]Iyer worked as a chef, food stylist, and home economist before becoming a full-time food writer.[5] She was a finalist on MasterChef in 2013.[6]
Her first major commercial success came with The Roasting Tin (2017), a cookbook based around simple one-tin oven meals. The book was followed by several sequels, including The Green Roasting Tin (2018), The Quick Roasting Tin (2019), The Roasting Tin Around the World (2020), and The Sweet Roasting Tin (2021).[7]
In addition to the Roasting Tin series, Iyer has written cookbooks including The Middle Eastern Kitchen (2016), The Green Barbecue (2021), India Express (2022), and The Green Cookbook (2024).[8][9]
She has also written a weekly food column for The Guardian and has appeared on television programmes including Saturday Kitchen and This Morning.[10]
Personal life
[edit]Iyer lives in London with her husband and daughters.[11] Her family background includes roots in both Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, influences that have informed her writing on Indian food.[12]
