Roy Puramadam is an Indian lyricist who writes songs in Malayalam for films and devotional albums. Based in Munnar, Kerala, he has written lyrics for Malayalam cinema since 2010, and his songs have been recorded by playback singers including K. J. Yesudas, Shreya Ghoshal, S. Janaki and K. S. Chithra.
Career
[edit]Puramadam, a businessman based in Munnar, began writing film lyrics around 2010.[1] His early credits include Senior Mandrake (2010) and Therukkoothu, which was not released.[1]
In 2010 he wrote the lyrics for the Malayalam film 12 a.m., released in Tamil as Eesal, directed by Vijay Adithya with music by Midhun Iswor. The film featured a patriotic song performed in 24 languages, for which Puramadam wrote the Malayalam verses; the Tamil version was co-written with Mass Venkat. He wrote six further songs for the film.[1]
10 Kalpanakal and S. Janaki
[edit]Puramadam wrote the lyrics for all songs in the 2016 crime thriller 10 Kalpanakal, composed by Mithun Eshwar.[1] The soundtrack included "Amma Poovinum", recorded by S. Janaki, which she identified as the song she had chosen before announcing her retirement from playback singing.[2] Announcing the recording, Janaki said: "I have sung a song for the movie 10 Kalpanakal. Mithun has beautifully composed the music of the song and is penned by Roy."[2] The song was launched at an event in Abu Dhabi on 4 October 2016.[2]
Other songs on the soundtrack were recorded by Shreya Ghoshal, K. J. Yesudas and Vijay Yesudas.
Other work
[edit]Puramadam wrote "Parayuvanariyathe", recorded by K. J. Yesudas, and "Thira Thira" for the 2016 film Koppayile Kodumkattu, directed by Soujan Josseph. He has also written for the films Oru Yakshi Kadha, Whine and Big Salute (2019).
Alongside film work he has written Christian devotional albums, including Jerusalem, Yarusalem and Celebration, recorded by singers including Kester, Sujatha Mohan and K. G. Markose.
