Reuben Gobezie
[edit]Reuben Gobezie is an American orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder surgery and shoulder arthroplasty. He is the founder of the Cleveland Shoulder Institute[1] in Cleveland, Ohio. Gobezie has held academic and clinical appointments at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals Case Medical Center.
Education
[edit]Gobezie received a B.A. degree in biology from Johns Hopkins University in 1994 and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School in 1999.
He completed surgical training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program. He later completed fellowship training in shoulder surgery through the Harvard Shoulder Fellowship program at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Medical Career
[edit]After completing fellowship training, Gobezie served as an instructor with the Harvard Shoulder Service at Massachusetts General Hospital.
In 2006, Gobezie joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine as an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He later served as chief of shoulder and elbow surgery at the University Hospitals Case Medical Center.
Gobezie founded the Cleveland Shoulder Institute in 2006, a medical practice specializing in shoulder surgery and related orthopedic procedures. He has also been involved in orthopedic research, implant design, and digital rehabilitation technologies.
In digital health, Gobezie co-founded Genie Health, a company focused on remote musculoskeletal rehabilitation and patient monitoring.
Research and Activities
[edit]Gobezie's research has focused on shoulder arthroplasty, cartilage resurfacing, rotator cuff repair, osteoarthritis biomarkers, and rehabilitation technologies. His publications have appeared in medical journals including Arthroscopy, JSES International, and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Gobezie has participated in professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.
He has also worked with Mercy Ships as a consultant surgeon in several countries, including Liberia, Benin, Sierra Leone, and Honduras.
