Prafulla Chandra Sen became the acting Chief Minister of West Bengal on 2 July 1962 following the death of Bidhan Chandra Roy on 1 July 1962. He was formally sworn in as Chief Minister on 9 July 1962 after being elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
The ministry remained in office until 28 February 1967, when the Indian National Congress lost power in the 1967 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, leading to the formation of the Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee led ministry. The government faced severe food shortages, rising political unrest and growing opposition from left-wing parties during the mid-1960s.[7][8]
