Pista House is an Indian restaurant chain headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana.[1]. Established in 1997 by Mohammed Abdul Majeed,[2], the company is best known for serving Hyderabadi haleem, along with biryani, bakery products, sweets, and other traditional dishes.[3][4]

History

[edit]

Pista House was founded in 1997 in the Shalibanda area of Hyderabad as a family-owned restaurant.[5]. As customer demand increased, the business expanded by opening additional restaurants, bakeries, takeaway outlets, and sweet shops across the city. [6]Over time, the company extended its reach to other parts of India and began supplying packaged haleem to overseas markets. It also explored opportunities to expand internationally through franchise operations.[7][8]

Products

[edit]

Pista House offers a range of Hyderabadi and North Indian dishes, with Hyderabadi haleem being its signature product.[9][10]

Apart from its traditional recipe, the company introduced haleem prepared with black rice from Manipur.[11][12]

In 2023, Pista House introduced Hot Pot Haleem, a self-heating packaged product.[13]

The company's bakery division also produces traditional baked items including Dum Ke Roat and Khowa Puri.[14][15]

Flight-Themed Restaurant

[edit]

In 2022, Pista House announced the development of an aviation-themed restaurant in Hyderabad using a retired Airbus A320 aircraft. The project was introduced under the names Fly High and Fly Hyderabad.[16]

Operations

[edit]

During Ramadan, Pista House substantially increases its haleem production to meet seasonal demand. Temporary production units and additional workforce are employed to support cooking, packaging, transportation, and retail operations.[17]

Recognition

[edit]

Pista House is recognised as one of Hyderabad's best-known producers of Hyderabadi haleem.[18]

Hyderabadi haleem received Geographical Indication (GI) status in 2010, and Pista House was among the prominent producers associated with the product.[19]

Controversy

[edit]

In 2024, a consumer complaint regarding a packaged banana cake purchased from a Pista House outlet in Uppal led to an inspection by local food safety authorities.[20][21][22][23][24][25]
