History

Paysend Group Limited was incorporated in Edinburgh on 4 April 2017.[7]
In 2019, Paysend raised £8.6 million through a crowdfunding campaign, double its initial target of £4.3 million. The campaign formed part of a larger investment round led by Plug and Play and Digital Space Ventures.[8]
In May 2021, Paysend raised $125 million in a Series B funding round led by One Peak, with participation from Infravia Growth Capital, Hermes GPE and existing investor Plug and Play.[1]
TechCrunch estimated the company’s valuation at around $720 million, a figure Paysend did not disclose.[1]
Paysend opened a European technology centre in Belgrade, Serbia, in May 2022.[6]
Paysend EU Designated Activity Company received authorisation as an electronic money institution from the Central Bank of Ireland on 20 December 2022.[5] In April 2023, Paysend announced plans to open an office in Dublin and said it was recruiting a team of up to 30 people in Ireland.[9]
In November 2023, Paysend announced a $65 million funding round that included a strategic investment from Mastercard. Existing investors Infravia Growth Capital, One Peak and Hermes GPE Innovation Fund also participated.[10]
In April 2026, Paysend secured a $25 million follow-on investment from Claret Capital Partners.[11][12] FinTech Futures reported that Claret had invested more than $45 million in Paysend since becoming an investor in 2020.[11]
Services
[edit]Paysend operates a platform providing international money transfers, account services and payments for consumers and businesses.[1][2] Its initial service focused on card-to-card international transfers, before the platform expanded to support additional methods of sending and receiving money.[2]
In 2020, Paysend introduced a consumer multicurrency account.[2] It expanded its services to business customers in 2022.[2]
According to TechCrunch, Paysend developed its own payment-processing and acquiring systems rather than relying entirely on third-party infrastructure.[1]
