Muhammad Tariq Mazari is a Pakistani student organizer known for organizing cultural and educational activities in Rojhan and Kashmore. While studying sociology at Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad he organized a Baloch cultural festival in Kashmore in 2026. Following the event media reports stated that he faced threats and accusations from extremist elements opposed to the festival.[1] He is identified by the Mazari Students Welfare Association as its founder.[2]
Education
[edit]Muhammad Tariq Mazari Mazari studies BS sociology at the School of Sociology Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. [1]
During his studies he authored an ethnomusicological research article titled 'Throat Singing and Nar Sur: A Comparative Literature-Based Ethnomusicological Study of Global and Balochi Vocal Traditions.' The article published in The Critical Review of Social Sciences Studies in March 2026 compared the Balochi tradition of Nar Sur with other throat-singing traditions and examined its vocal techniques social functions and cultural significance.[3]
Cultural and educational activities
[edit]Muhammad Tariq Mazari organized a book festival in Rojhan And kashmore on 26th and 27th january aimed at promoting reading and intellectual engagement among local young people.[1]
In 2026 he organized a Baloch cultural festival in Kashmore. The event celebrated Baloch traditions heritage and cultural identity and was attended by students, community members, tribal elders and regional figures.[1] [4]
Threats following the Kashmore festival

Following the festival Muhammad Tariq Mazari reportedly faced threats and accusations from extremist elements who objected to the event. His supporters and fellow students rejected the accusations and described the festival as a peaceful cultural gathering.[1] [4]
In a video circulated on Facebook physicist Pervez Hoodbhoy expressed support for Muhammad Tariq Mazari and rejected the accusations made against him following the festival.[5]
A student organization stated that celebrating cultural days was not contrary to religion or social values and that such activities promoted harmony, tolerance and brotherhood.[6]
Students and civil-society representatives subsequently called upon the authorities to investigate the threats and provide protection to Mazari.[1]
