Draft:Medicare Laboratories

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Medicare Laboratories (Arabic: مختبرات ميديكير) is a medical laboratory and diagnostics company headquartered in the West Bank, in the Palestinian territories. Founded in 1995, the company operates a network of laboratories across the West Bank and has been described by Palestinian media as one of the largest private medical laboratory chains in the country.[1]

Services

[edit]

Medicare offers more than 2,200 laboratory and diagnostic tests, spanning routine clinical chemistry and hematology, microbiology, histopathology, and genetic and molecular diagnostics, including whole exome sequencing (WES) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) for hereditary and rare disease screening. The company also provides non-invasive liver imaging (branded "Hepatus"), advanced cardiovascular risk panels, home blood-draw services, and an electronic patient results portal called "Saleem".[2]

A 2023 master's thesis at Al-Quds University surveying patients and physicians about laboratory service quality at eight Medicare branches recorded satisfaction rates of 89 percent among the surveyed patients and 85 percent among the surveyed physicians.[3]

Accreditation

[edit]

Medicare states it first received ISO 15189 international accreditation for medical laboratories in 2017. Its Hebron branch was reported by the Quds Net News Agency to have received the accreditation in January 2019,[4] and in July 2025, Raya Media Network reported that the company's Ramallah and Nablus branches renewed their ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for a fourth consecutive time.[1]

History and expansion

[edit]

Since its founding, the company has expanded its branch network across the West Bank, including an eighth branch opened in Beitunia, in the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate, and a renovated branch in the al-Taj area of Tulkarm opened in mid-2026. Medicare has signed cooperation agreements with several Palestinian institutions, including An-Najah National University Hospital and Birzeit University, to support clinical training and healthcare services.[5]
