Maulana Azad University, Jodhpur is a private university located in Bujhawar, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. It was established under the Maulana Azad University, Jodhpur Act, 2013 (Rajasthan Act No. 35 of 2013).[1] The university is sponsored by the Marwar Muslim Educational and Welfare Society, Jodhpur.[2]

History

The establishment of Maulana Azad University was initiated through the Maulana Azad University, Jodhpur Bill, 2013 (Bill No. 42 of 2013). The bill was introduced in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on 27 August 2013 and passed on 30 August 2013.[2]

The bill subsequently became the Maulana Azad University, Jodhpur Act, 2013 (Rajasthan Act No. 35 of 2013). The Act received the assent of the Governor of Rajasthan on 15 September 2013 and was published in the Rajasthan Gazette on 16 September 2013.[1][2]

The Act provided for the establishment and incorporation of Maulana Azad University in Rajasthan.[1] The Marwar Muslim Educational and Welfare Society, Jodhpur, was designated as the sponsoring body of the university.[2]

According to the establishing legislation, the sponsoring body was originally registered as the Marwar Muslim Educational Society under the Rajasthan Societies Registration Act, 1958.[2]

Prior to the establishment of the university, a committee appointed by the Government of Rajasthan examined the infrastructure proposed for the institution.[1]

Campus

The university is located at Bujhawar in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.[3]

The university's academic and administrative activities are conducted from its Jodhpur campus.[3]

Academics

Maulana Azad University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programmes across a range of academic disciplines.[3]

The university has an Academic Council responsible for academic matters.[5]

Maulana Azad University was established by the Rajasthan State Legislature through Rajasthan Act No. 35 of 2013.[1] India Code lists the legislation as a Rajasthan state Act administered by the Higher Education Department.[1]

The university states that it is recognised under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.[3]
