Lara Wegener (also known as Lara Wegener, MD) is a German physician, cellular researcher and botanical medicine practitioner. She is the founder of Forest in a Bottle, a line of physician-formulated botanical elixirs, co-founder of the Trees for People Foundation, and founder of Seeding Earth, a six-continent soil regeneration network. Her work focuses on the intersection of conventional medicine, indigenous Maya plant knowledge and the emerging science of soil microorganism healing.
Education and early career
[edit]Wegener received her medical degree from [[Charité — Universitätsmedizin Berlin]], one of Europe's largest university hospitals. She subsequently undertook advanced research training at the University of Oxford and Stanford University, where she spent over a decade investigating natural stem cell regeneration, root-cause cellular healing and normothermic ex vivo organ perfusion. Rainforest medicine research
[edit]Wegener subsequently travelled to the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, where she studied alongside a German medical team embedded with the indigenous Maya community. The team had conducted 40 years of field research validating the Maya pharmacological tradition, which spans an estimated 9,000 years of accumulated botanical and agricultural knowledge. Wegener's research led her to conclude that living soil microorganisms — the invisible ecosystems within rainforest floor soil — represent a missing foundation of human health that conventional medicine has largely overlooked. This work informed her clinical philosophy: that the health of the Earth's soil microbiome is inseparable from human health, and that botanicals grown within intact rainforest ecosystems carry a biological complexity unavailable in synthetically cultivated plants.
Forest in a Bottle
[edit]In 2026, Wegener founded Forest in a Bottle, a brand of physician-formulated botanical elixirs grown and harvested by hand on living Yucatán rainforest floor. [2] The formulas draw on indigenous microorganism ecosystems and traditional Maya agricultural practices. Forest in a Bottle is sold internationally through theforestinabottle.com.
Public education
[edit]Wegener hosts a podcast series on human health, rainforest medicine, and biophilosophy, available on Spotify.[3] She also publishes educational lectures on YouTube at the channel @doctorlarawegener, covering topics including soil microorganism healing, natural stem cell regeneration, and Maya plant medicine.
Conservation work

[edit]Wegener co-founded the Trees for People Foundation, which protects 500 acres of Yucatán rainforest within a 2-million-acre conservation corridor. The Foundation's mission is to restore degraded forest land by reintroducing indigenous soil microorganisms and creating conditions for forests to regenerate naturally — targeting 1,000,000 hectares of restored rainforest by 2050.
Seeding Earth
[edit]Wegener founded Seeding Earth ([https://seedingearth.com seedingearth.com]), a network uniting forest and soil regeneration projects across six continents. The organisation deploys solar-powered drone reforestation technology to reduce the cost of large-scale tree planting by a factor of approximately 100 compared to conventional methods. [4]

[edit]Wegener hosts the Annual Soil Regeneration & Reforestation Summit in France, which brings together scientists, indigenous knowledge-holders, and regenerative practitioners from around the world to advance the science and practice of ecosystem restoration.
