Kate Dolan (born 1991) is an Irish director and writer. She is best known for her films You Are Not My Mother (2021) and SOULM8TE (2026). She has also directed TV and music videos.
Early Life and Education
[edit source]Dolan grew up in North Dublin, Ireland. She graduated from IADT in 2012 with an Honours Degree in Film & Television Production. [1] Her graduate film Breathe In was selected for a number of Irish and international film festivals.
Career
[edit source]Following University, Dolan worked on Commercials as well as making short films and music videos. Little Doll, was written and directed by Kate Dolan and premiered at the 2016 Berlinale.[2] [3] Dolan wrote and directed the short Catcalls in 2017. [4] Dolan won the Emerging Director Award for best short film in 2018 for Catcalls. [5]
Dolan’s first feature, You Are Not My Mother, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival Midnight Madness programme in 2021.[6] The cast includes Haxel Doupe, Carolyn Bracken and Ingrid Craigie. You Are Not My Mother was the first runner up in the TIFF 2021 People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award after Julia Ducournau’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner ‘Titane’. [7] The film also won various awards for Dolan, including the Jury Prize for best film at the 2022 Gérardmer Film Festival. [8]
In 2023, Dolan directed two episodes of of the second season of Kin.[9] For this work she won an IFTA.[10] In 2024, she directed two episodes of the second season of The Tourist. >
Dolan was brought on to rewrite and direct Soulm8te, a spin off of the M3GAN universe. Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, and Claudia Doumit were cast in lead roles.[11] Principal photography was completed by November 2024. Due to M3GAN 2.0 being a commercial disappointment, it was decided to release Soulm8te straight to digital on 1st August 2026. [12]
