Comment: The article doesn't explain why this person would be notable. The only significant coverage of him in independent, reliable sources is in an article titled "Who is Daphne Oz's husband" and it is very much told from the perspective of Daphne Oz - notability is not inherited and being married to Oz does not mean Jovanovic needs his own article. Jovan "John" Jovanovic (born August 6, 1986) is an American businessman, diplomat and former U.S. government official. He served as regional director of the Aegean & Western Balkans at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation in the first Trump Administration.[1] In September 2025 Jovanovic was confirmed as chairman and CEO of the Export-Import Bank of the United States.[2][3]
Early life and education
[edit]Jovanovic was born in Chicago, the child of Serbian immigrants to the United States. He graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management.[2]
Career
[edit]Jovanovic formerly worked at Nova Fleet, Mercuria, and as chief strategy officer at Asplundh Tree Expert.[3] Since 2019 he has served as a senior advisor with Concordia.[4]
U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC)
[edit]In 2020, Jovanovic was appointed regional director for the Aegean & Western Balkans at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).[1] He oversaw the opening of the DFC's first overseas office in Belgrade, Serbia, in September 2020.[5] Jovanovic was also involved in the implementation of Trump's Washington Agreements on Economic Normalization between Kosovo and Serbia.[6]
After Joe Biden assumed the U.S. presidency in January 2021, it was reported and confirmed by Jovanovic in March 2021 that he was no longer Director of the DFC in Belgrade.[7][8]
Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM)
[edit]On February 16, 2025, President Donald Trump announced via the social media platform Truth Social that he would be appointing Jovanovic to become the next Chairman and CEO of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM).[9][10]
On September 18 the US Senate voted on the appointment and confirmed Jovanovic as president and chairman, replacing former chair Reta Jo Lewis and interim chair Spencer Bacchus.[3] He is the first Serbian-American to have held the role.[11]
In November 2025, Jovanovic announced a series of deals involving projects in Egypt, Pakistan and Europe, focused on LNG and nuclear energy projects. This would include a $4 billion credit insurance guarantee for the delivery of natural gas to Egypt by Hartree Partners, and a $1.25 billion loan towards the development of the Reko Diq Mine in Pakistan by Barrick Mining.[12][13]
The role of senior adviser for "energy dominance" at EXIM was introduced during his tenure.[11]
Personal life
[edit]Jovanovic met his wife, Daphne Oz, the daughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz, while they were both studying at Princeton.[4] They married on August 26th, 2010, which was followed on August 28, 2010, by two religious ceremonies.[14] Together they have four children.[4]
