Johannes Colijn (c. 1692-1743) was a South African wine maker. He was born to Bastiaan Jansz Colijn (c. 1650 - unknown) and Maria Everts (1663-1713). He married two women. He first married Elsje van Hoff on 1 May 1718. She was the daughter of Lambert Lambertsz van Hoff and Magaretha Visser. She became the widow of Jan Jurgensz Cotze in 1717. She married Johannes Colijn soon after 1 year after becoming widow. Johannes and Elsabe had 1 daughter. Johanna Jacoba Colijn Born in 1720. She married Carl Georg Wieser and owned Groot Constantia. After Elsabe died, Johannes married Johanna Appel , They had 7 verified children. Johannes Bastiaanus Colynin 1725, then in 1727 they had another son. Johannes Bastiaan II Colyn and then Johannes Ferdinadus Colyn in 1728 and then in 1730 Johannes Jacobus Colyn born in 1730. Then a daughter came. Maria Colijn in 1732 and then Johanna Levinia Colijn was born in 1736. Then in 1739 another daughter, Elsabe Cornelia Colijn named after Johannes first wife, Elsabe. Then in 1742 their last child, a son, was born. Johannes Nicolaas Colyn Johannes Colijn farmed on Hoop op Constantia, in 1726 he succesfully negotiated the first major international shipment of red and white wines from Constantia By 1727 Johannes Colijn secured a exclusive, highly lucrative annual contract to supply the Dutch East India Company (VOC). By 1736 his wines was so universally acclaimed in Europe, he succesfully forced the VOC to grant him a huge price increase. He acquired Klein Constantia/Hoop op Constantia through his first marriage to his first wife Elsabe van Hoff. In 1734 his wealthy neighbor died, Anna de Koningh died. Colijn then decided to use his own capital to secure a loan so that his sister Johanna Colijn and her husband [[Carl Georg Wieser]] could purchase Groot Constantia. By 1728 it was recorded that he had 50,000 grape vines to make wine and over 25 male slaves. Shortly after his youngest childs birth, Johannes Nicolaas Colyn he sadly died in 1743 when his youngest son was 1 year old at the age of 50 years old.
