Jeremy D. Jordan is a pediatric acute care nurse practitioner, nursing educator, and researcher whose work concerns pediatric critical care and neurologic injury.[1] He is an assistant professor and co-coordinator of the Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Specialty Track at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing and practices in the pediatric intensive care unit at Children's of Alabama.[2][3]

[edit]Dr. Jordan was born in Mobile, AL. He attended St. Paul's Episcopal School and graduated in 2006 with honors. Jordan is a three-time graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), earning a Bachelor of Science in healthcare management, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Ph.D. in nursing[4]. Early in his career, he worked as the director of clinical trials at a dermatology practice after completing his undergraduate degree.[5][6] He later transitioned into nursing through UAB’s Accelerated Master’s in Nursing Pathway program, obtaining his M.S.N. with a specialization as a pediatric acute care nurse practitioner.[7] In 2021, Jordan received his Ph.D. from the UAB School of Nursing, where his doctoral research focused on pediatric brain injury.[8]
After completing his graduate training, Jordan embarked on an academic career at the UAB School of Nursing. He became an assistant professor at UAB and played a leading role in developing the school’s acute care pediatric nurse practitioner (AC-PNP) specialty track, eventually serving as the program’s coordinator. In this faculty position, Jordan has overseen curriculum revisions for the acute care PNP program and helped train new pediatric nurse practitioners.[9] Alongside his academic duties, he maintains a clinical practice as a critical care PNP in the pediatric intensive care unit at Children’s of Alabama.[10]
Jordan’s research centers on pediatric acute and critical care, with an emphasis on neurologic injuries such as traumatic brain injury.[11] He has presented his work at professional conferences and published findings in peer-reviewed medical journals.[12][13] He is also active in professional organizations, including the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners[14], the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Society for Critical Care Medicine.[15][16]
Dr. Jordan also serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pediatric Health Care.[17]
Jordan earned a bachelor's degree in health care management in 2011, a Master of Science in Nursing in 2014, and a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing in 2021, all from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.[1] He entered nursing through UAB's Accelerated Master's in Nursing Pathway and specialized as a pediatric acute care nurse practitioner.[18]
Jordan joined the UAB School of Nursing faculty in 2017 and subsequently became a co-coordinator of its pediatric acute care nurse practitioner specialty track.[1][2] He also maintains a clinical practice as a pediatric acute care nurse practitioner in the pediatric intensive care unit at Children's of Alabama.[3]
His teaching has included clinical simulation for pediatric acute care nurse practitioner students. In 2019, UAB described his participation in a simulated mass-casualty exercise intended to prepare students for uncommon, high-risk clinical events.[19] In 2025, Birmingham television station WVTM reported on a later version of the exercise and quoted Jordan about applying triage and delegation skills in intensive and emergency care settings.[20]
Research and scholarship
[edit]Jordan's research has focused on pediatric neurologic injury, including the use of transcranial Doppler ultrasonography to study cerebral blood-flow changes after traumatic brain injury.[1] His research has examined relationships among day-to-day changes in pulsatility index, neurologic function, and neurocognitive outcomes in children with traumatic brain injury.[21][22]
In 2024, Jordan was the corresponding author of a study examining pulsatility-index variability and neurologic outcomes among children with cerebral malaria.[23]
Professional service and educational media
[edit]Jordan has served as a member-at-large on the executive board of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP).[3] He previously served in leadership roles in the association's Acute Care Special Interest Group and on its diversity, equity, and inclusion committee.[3]
In 2022, Jordan and Vanessa Kalis co-hosted a ten-episode season of NAPNAP's TeamPeds Talks podcast titled The Acute Care PNP's Impact. The series addressed the history, clinical practice, education, research, and future of the acute care pediatric nurse practitioner role.[24][25]

Recognition
[edit]Dr. Jordan has received multiple accolades throughout his career, recognizing his contributions to nursing education, leadership, and clinical practice.
In 2024, Jordan received the Dean’s Award for Faculty from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing, recognizing his leadership in promoting inclusive practices within nursing education and institutional culture.[26][27]
The Alabama Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), under Jordan’s leadership, was named Small Chapter of the Year for three consecutive years—2023 through 2025. This national recognition highlighted the chapter’s outreach, member engagement, and educational programming during his tenure.[28][29][30]
Jordan was honored with the Presidential Commendation by NAPNAP in 2022 and again in 2023, acknowledging his national impact on pediatric health care policy, education, and leadership development.[31]
In 2022, he was named an Emerging Leader by NAPNAP, a distinction given to promising early-career nurse practitioners who demonstrate exemplary professional contributions on a national scale.[32][33]
Jordan’s academic excellence and research achievements were recognized by the Alabama League for Nursing, which awarded him the Doctoral Nursing Scholarship in 2020, in support of his Ph.D. research in pediatric traumatic brain injury.[34]
As a graduate student, Jordan was named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar[35]
In 2025, Jordan was one of 51 nurse practitioners selected for induction as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.[36]
