Iya Krish

Iya Krish is a young Indian climber from Thrissur, Kerala. At the age of eight, she ascended Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa and a 4,167-meter mountain in Morocco's Atlas Mountains, in July 2026. Numerous Indian news outlets covered her climb.
Mount Toubkal ascent
Krish began her successful Mount Toubkal expedition in July 2026 and reached the summit on 7 July, accompanied by her father and other members of the trekking group. The expedition took place in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Reports described the climb as a three-day trek involving steep and rugged terrain and high-altitude conditions.
Several reports described Krish as one of the youngest climbers to summit Toubkal and as the youngest person from Asia to do so. These descriptions have been reported in Indian media, although such age records would require independent verification by an authoritative mountaineering or record-keeping organisation before being stated as an established world or continental record.
Early mountaineering
According to media reports, Krish's interest in trekking developed after she accompanied her father on the Sabarimala pilgrimage when she was five years old. She subsequently participated in shorter mountain hikes in the United Arab Emirates and trained in Kalaripayattu. Reports also state that she climbed Jebel Jais, the highest mountain in the UAE, at five years and 11 months.
Before the successful Toubkal ascent, Krish's family reportedly made an earlier attempt that was abandoned because of winter conditions. The family later returned during the summer, when the climb was completed.
Personal life
Krish is from Thrissur, Kerala, and lives with her family in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, where she attends school. Her father, Krishnaraj, has accompanied her on several of her trekking activities.
Future plans
Following the Toubkal ascent, reports stated that Krish was preparing for possible climbs of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Elbrus. Her family has also discussed longer-term mountaineering ambitions.
