Ivan Kukolj (born 1 October 1965), known by nickname Kuki, is a Serbian[1] folk singer.
He is known by specifically strong voice of a Kafana performer, singing emotional and cheerful ballads.
Early life
[edit]Kukolj was born 1st October 1965 in Belgrade.[2][1] He grew up there, yet family coming from Nova Varoš.[2][1] He was interested in priests' avocation but life path led him to work as an electrician in Yugoslavia, Iraq and Russia.[2][1]
Career
[edit]He came back from Moscow in 1992 to perform in a Kafana in Borča, what is a beginning of his musical career.[2][1]
He has since recorded 18 studio albums; the first of them was published in 1994, with Ana Bekuta being backing vocal.[3]
His hit-songs are "Lažu petli" ('Roosters Lie'), "Prošli su moji vozovi" ('Trains of Mine Passed'), "Ne daju mi da te volim" ('They Do Not Let Me to Love You'), "Kolko košta pesma ta" ('How Much Does That Song Cost'), "Ispod šljive na sred njive" ('Below Plum Above Field') etc. Some dozen of his most popular songs count millions of views at YouTube.[4]
