IRIDEOS S.p.A. was an Italian telecommunications company.
Founded in 2018 from the transformation of MC-link, in 2024 it was merged into Retelit.
History
[edit]F2i Fondi Italiani per le Infrastrutture, born in 2007 on the initiative of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the system of banking foundations, UniCredit and Intesa Sanpaolo, is an Italian asset management company. It is the largest Italian independent manager of infrastructure funds, with approximately 5 billion euros in assets under management.[2][3]
In 2017, F2i invested in telecommunications when, in consortium with the Marguerite fund, it first acquired Infracom and subsequently MC-link, KPNQwest Italia and Enter, aiming to create an information and communication technology hub dedicated to businesses and the public administration.[4][5][6]
In August 2018, from the merger of the companies, Irideos was born. On 2 November 2020, Irideos incorporated the sixth operator Clouditalia.[7][8] The acquisition of Clouditalia doubled Irideos's fiber-optic network, adding approximately 15,000 km of infrastructure and strengthening its B2B service offering.[9][10]
In 2022, the Spanish fund Asterion Industrial Partners acquired the majority of its shares.[11] Asterion acquired a 78.4% stake from F2i, with the transaction valued at approximately $400 million.[12] The fund subsequently acquired Marguerite's 19.6% stake, bringing its total ownership to 98%.[13] Asterion planned to merge Irideos with Retelit, another Italian telecommunications company it already controlled, to create what it described as the "largest alternative wholesale access and B2B connectivity provider in Italy."[12][14]
On 1 August 2024, Irideos was merged by incorporation into Retelit Digital Services, together with Brennercom.[15][16] The integration created a combined platform with over 43,000 km of fiber-optic network and 34 data centers across Italy, positioning Retelit as a leading B2B telecommunications operator in the country.[17][18]
