  • Comment: This is basically just a corporate brochure, it is (ultimately) the company telling the world about itself. We're not interested in that, we want almost exclusively to see what others, esp. reliable and independent secondary sources, have chosen on their own initiative to say about them. There are a couple of sources which may meet those criteria, but they are buried among 15 or so primary sources, routine business reporting, etc. DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:59, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

INTEGRA Biosciences AG is a Swiss manufacturer of laboratory equipment and liquid handling technologies.[1][6] The company is headquartered in Zizers, Switzerland, and operates an additional site in Hudson, New Hampshire, United States.[2][6] It is a subsidiary of the Swiss-based INTEGRA Holding AG.[2][7]

The company was founded in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1965 as Tecnomara, a distributor of laboratory equipment, before developing into a manufacturer through acquisitions and international expansion.[2] Following its combination with the U.S.-based VIAFLO Corporation in 2009, it relocated its Swiss headquarters to Zizers and established subsidiaries in several countries.[4][2][8] During the 2020s, the company expanded its manufacturing capacity in Switzerland and acquired Miroculus, a U.S.-based biotech company.[9][10][11]

INTEGRA Biosciences was founded in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1965 as Tecnomara AG, a trading company for laboratory equipment.[2] During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the company expanded through a series of acquisitions, including PETRA Labortechnik Ltd. (1999) and TECURIA Engineering Ltd. (2001).[2]In 2003, the company consolidated all of its business activities — including sales and marketing, product development, and manufacturing — at a single site in Chur, Switzerland.[2] In 2009, it merged with the U.S.-based VIAFLO Corporation and relocated its Swiss headquarters and production activities to Zizers.[2][6][8]

In 2012, INTEGRA Biosciences acquired its French distribution partner, Valdea. The company then established a sales offices in the United Kingdom (2013), a subsidiary in Germany in 2014, opened a sales office in China in 2017, and later established sales offices in Japan (2019), Denmark (2023), Ireland (2023/2024), the Netherlands (2024) and Australia (2024).[4][2] In March 2023, INTEGRA Biosciences acquired Miroculus, a U.S.-based developer of automated sample-preparation technology for next-generation sequencing.[9][12]

Products

INTEGRA Biosciences manufactures laboratory liquid-handling equipment and related consumables for research, diagnostic, and quality control laboratories.[1][6] Its products include both manual and electronic pipettes, pipet controllers, pipetting robots, reagent dispensers, aspiration systems, media preparation equipment, laboratory consumables and magnetic beads.[1][6] The company's products are used in the pharmaceutical, biotech, agricultural, cosmetic and food industry, as well as in public institutions, universities and hospitals.[1]

The company's electronic pipette product lines include the VIAFLO, VOYAGER, MINI 96, VIAFLO 96, and VIAFLO 384 systems, while its laboratory automation portfolio includes the ASSIST and ASSIST PLUS pipetting robots.[1] The MIRO CANVAS platform for automated next-generation sequencing sample preparation was introduced following the company's acquisition of Miroculus in 2023.[9][12] In September 2025, INTEGRA launched the SWITCH hybrid pipette, combining manual and electronic repeat-dispensing modes. Its ergonomic design was informed by biomechanical guidelines developed in collaboration with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).[13]

Corporate structure

[edit]

INTEGRA Biosciences is a member of the INTEGRA Group, whose parent company is the Swiss-based INTEGRA Holding AG, a privately held holding company headquartered in Wallisellen, Switzerland.[2][7]

Operations

[edit]

The company's principal manufacturing activities are located in Zizers, Switzerland, with an additional engineering and production facility in Hudson, New Hampshire, United States.[2][6] According to INTEGRA Holding, the company employed approximately 600 people globally and generated revenue of CHF 156 million in 2024.[2]

The COVID-19 pandemic increased demand for laboratory equipment and related consumables used worldwide in research and diagnostics.[11] In 2021, SRF reported that INTEGRA Biosciences invested CHF 50 million in Switzerland to expand pipette-tip production in Zizers.[11] The investment was intended to meet the growing global demand and reduce the risks associated with global shipping delays and supply chain disruptions.[11]

The expansion focused on highly automated production processes, which allowed the company to increase manufacturing in Switzerland despite comparatively high labor costs.[11] During the COVID-19 pandemic, SRF described INTEGRA Biosciences as an example of a Swiss company investing in domestic production rather than moving manufacturing abroad.[11]

In 2024, RTR reported that INTEGRA Biosciences completed a CHF 80 million expansion in Zizers, including a 33,000-square-meter building with additional production, development, and office functions.[10] At the time, the company employed approximately 240 people at the site, including around 55 engineers.[10]

Awards and recognition

[edit]

The company has received several awards recognizing its laboratory products and manufacturing achievements. In 2021, the company was named Life Sciences Company of the Year in SelectScience's annual awards program, while its ASSIST PLUS pipetting robot received the Best New General Laboratory Product award for 2018, announced at Pittcon in March 2019.[14][15]

In 2020, the company received the Swiss Manufacturing Award and placed second in the Prix SVC Ostschweiz competition.[16][17]

INTEGRA Biosciences won the Red Dot Design Award for product design in 2014 for its innovative ASSIST pipetting robot.[18]
