Inman News (operating as Inman) is an American online publication covering the residential real estate industry. The company was founded in 1996 by journalist and entrepreneur Bradley Inman, a former syndicated real estate columnist for the San Francisco Examiner.[1]
In 2021, the company was acquired by Beringer Capital, a Toronto-based private equity firm.[1][2]
Tom Bohn has served as chief executive officer since April 2026.[3][4]
Inman hosts industry conferences under the names Inman Connect and Blueprint, with the flagship event being Inman Connect New York, held annually in Manhattan, New York.[5]
History
[edit]Inman News was founded in 1996 by Bradley Inman, covering estate brokerage, technology, and market trends.[1]
In July 2021 Bradley Inman sold the company to Beringer Capital, a Toronto-based private equity firm specializing in media, marketing services, and technology.[1][6] Financial terms were not disclosed, and Inman retained a minority stake and a board seat, with the rest of the company's leadership staying in place.[1] Beringer had previously bought the media and advertising trade publication Adweek from Mediabistro Holdings in July 2016, and sold it to Shamrock Capital in June 2020.[7][8]
Inman expanded into the construction and "built world" sector in October 2024 by acquiring Blueprint, a conference and media platform, from Connectiv Holdings LLC for an undisclosed sum.[9][10] Blueprint's flagship event, Blueprint Vegas, has continued under Inman's ownership.[9]
Leadership
[edit]Tom Bohn was named chief executive officer in March 2026, succeeding Emily Paquette effective that April.[3][4] He had previously served as chief executive of THM Media, the parent company of TheHomeMag, and earlier held CEO roles at the Association for Corporate Growth and the North American Veterinary Community.[4]
That June, Bohn wrote an opinion piece for Inman, "We Can't Be Bought, and We Won't Be Bullied," arguing that the publication does not answer to its largest advertisers.[11][12] The real estate newsletter Housing Notes, syndicated by The Real Deal, reported that the column followed pressure from brokerage firm Compass, which had reportedly threatened to pull its advertising after Inman ran a separate op-ed by Bess Freedman, chief executive of Brown Harris Stevens, criticizing the company; Bohn's piece framed the episode as a matter of editorial independence.[11][12]
Lucy Cohen Blatter became editor-in-chief in September 2026.[13] She came to Inman from Dow Jones, where she had been editorial director of custom content for Mansion Global Custom Studios since 2021, and had earlier been managing editor of Mansion Global and held editorial posts at Brick Underground, The Wall Street Journal, Crain's New York Business, and The Real Deal.[13]
Events
[edit]The company organizes the Inman Connect conference series. The flagship Inman Connect New York event is held annually at the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan; the 2027 edition is scheduled for January 26–28.[5]
