Greyparrot (legally Greyparrot.ai Ltd) is a British technology company based in London that develops computer vision and data analysis systems for the waste management, recycling and packaging industries. Its camera units are installed above conveyor belts in recycling facilities, where they identify and record the composition of waste streams.[1] The company describes its platform as "waste intelligence", providing data on materials, packaging and brands passing through sorting facilities.[2] In addition to hardware for recovery facilities, it operates Deepnest, a data platform for consumer brands and packaging producers.[3]

History

[edit]

Greyparrot was founded in 2019 by Mikela Druckman, Ambarish Mitra and Nikola Sivacki, having incorporated in late 2018.[4]

In May 2020 the company raised $2.2 million in seed funding. In May 2022 it closed an $11 million Series A round led by Una Terra, with participation from Regeneration.VC, Closed Loop Partners, Speedinvest and 360 Capital.[5]

In February 2024 Greyparrot entered a strategic partnership with recycling plant equipment manufacturers Bollegraaf and Van Dyk, in an agreement valued at $12.8 million that included the transfer of Bollegraaf's AI vision operations.[6]

In June 2025 the company launched Deepnest during London Climate Action Week.[3] In July 2026 it raised a $27 million Series B funding round led by technology investor Omar Mir, bringing total raised funding to $60 million.[1][2]

Products

[edit]

Greyparrot Analyzer

[edit]

The Greyparrot Analyzer is a camera system mounted above sorting lines in materials recovery facilities (MRFs). It uses machine learning models to classify items by material, packaging format and brand.[7] By 2026, Analyzer monitoring units had been deployed in recycling facilities across more than 20 countries.[1]

In 2026, the UK Environment Agency began accepting waste composition data generated by Greyparrot's monitoring systems for statutory compliance submissions by facility operators.[2]

Deepnest

[edit]

Deepnest aggregates data collected by the Analyzer camera network to provide packaging producers and consumer brands with tracking data on how their products are recovered, sorted, or lost at sorting plants.[3][8] The launch coincided with new extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements in the UK and European Union requiring companies to assess post-consumer packaging recyclability.[9]

Early triallists of the data system included Unilever, Asahi Beverages and Amcor.[3] In May 2026 consumer health firm Kenvue agreed a partnership to use the platform to monitor packaging recovery.[10]

Recognition

[edit]
  • In October 2025, the Greyparrot Analyzer was named one of Time magazine's Best Inventions of 2025 in the AI and sustainability categories.[11]
  • In 2025, the company was featured in Fast Company's list of Most Innovative Companies in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.[12]
