Darwin Reina is a Spanish filmmaker, producer, screenwriter and film festival director based between Barcelona, Spain, and Stockholm, Sweden. His work includes short films, music videos, motion graphics and animation. He is also involved in the organization of international film festivals in Spain, Sweden and the United States.
Early life and career
[edit]Reina developed an interest in performance and filmmaking at an early age. Before concentrating on directing and producing, he worked as an actor and participated in stage productions. He later expanded his work into motion graphics, illustration and animation.
He made his directorial debut with the short film Jaska the Killer in 2013. Reina subsequently directed and produced short films, commercials and music videos through his production activities in Spain and internationally.
Film career
[edit]Reina's filmmaking work has focused on independent drama, thriller and horror productions. His directing credits include A Wilted Leaf, No Tell!, The Black Mafia, Blood Mist and A Hell of a Trip to Delicias.
A Hell of a Trip to Delicias is a horror short film set in Nicaragua. The film received recognition at several independent film festivals and was reviewed by UK Film Review in 2024.
In addition to directing, Reina has worked as a producer and executive producer on projects developed in Europe, Latin America and the United States. His production work includes the Colombian feature film Sara, la fuerza del mar.
Reina also works in animation and visual design, combining illustration and motion graphics with digital production techniques.
Film festival work
[edit]Reina is the founder and director of The North Film Festival, which has held editions in Stockholm and New York City. He also serves as festival director of the Love & Hope International Film Festival in Barcelona.
He later established the Los Angeles Fantasy Fest, an event focused on animation, horror and science-fiction films.
Through his festival activities, Reina has worked with emerging and established filmmakers, organized public screenings and awards events, and participated in international film-industry initiatives connected with the Cannes Film Festival and the Marché du Film.
