Cosentino is a family-owned Spanish company that produces and distributes engineered stone for architectural and design surfaces. Its commercial brands include Silestone®, Dekton®, and Sensa® by Cosentino.
History
[edit]Eduarda Justo and Eduardo Cosentino began working in quarrying and basic processing of Macael marbles in Almeria, a town of Macael (Spain) in the 1940s.
In 1980, their children.[1][2] established Mármoles Cosentino S.A., initially employing 17 people and operating a 40,000-square-meter factory, which has since grown into a 4-million-square-meter industrial park producing over 6,000 slabs daily for distribution worldwide actually.[3][4]
In the 1980s, the company expanded into the domestic market and began its international activities, opening commercial offices in France and Germany in 1985.[5][6] The company began manufacturing Silestone in 1990[7][8] and Dekton in 2013 [9]
In 2018, Cosentino planned a solar energy installation for self-consumption in Spain for their factories in Cantoria, with up to 40 MW. It was inaugurated in 2022, with a peak capacity of 20 MW. In 2023 it expanded, generating approximately 34,000 MWh[10] annually, and representing 27% of the annual electricity consumption of the Cosentino Industrial Park [11][12]
In 2025, Cosentino purchased 330 acres of land in West Jacksonville, Florida, which will be the location for the company’s first U.S.-based manufacturing facility.[13]
Activity
[edit]The company is involved in the complete product development cycle, from design and manufacturing to applications of hybrid mineral surfaces, ultra-compact surfaces, and natural stone.
Cosentino materials are divided into four brands: Silestone, a low-silica hybrid mineral surface made from minerals and recycled materials [14], produced using Hybriq+ technology [15], which reduces crystalline silica [16] content and incorporates over 25% recycled raw materials. Dekton, a carbon-neutral ultra-compact porcelain surface, made using a specialised press that generates 25,000 tonnes of uniform pressure. Sensa, a material made from natural granites and quartzites, featuring a protective treatment for enhanced resistance. Scalea, a natural stone composed of marble, granite, limestone, travertine and other materials.
These materials can be applied in all areas of interior and exterior spaces, including residential spaces such as homes and condominiums, as well as commercial spaces and public buildings. The products are used in kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms, extending to façades, outdoor kitchens, swimming pools, and outdoor flooring. Applications include cladding, paneling, furniture, shower trays, kitchen or bathroom countertops, sinks, and many others for any space.
Cosentino has over 6,000 employees, more than half of them based in Spain. In 2023, the company closed its fiscal year with a revenue of 1.570 billion euros, 92% of which was generated in international markets. Company's total investment amounted to 112 million euros, nearly 60% of which was allocated to the expansion and improvement of its Cantoria Industrial Park (Almería).
International Presence
[edit]

The company operates three Silestone manufacturing facilities in Spain, as well as a Dekton factory from which surfaces are distributed worldwide, a granite factory in Brazil,[17] and processing centers in several countries.[18]
The group distributes its products and brands to more than 120 countries, and has a commercial presence in 40 countries.[19] 92% of Cosentino’s revenue is generated in international markets.
Cosentino streamlines the national distribution of its materials in the countries in which it operates through its network of Cosentino Centers. By 2025, the multinational has 132 distribution centers worldwide, 171 business and commercial units, as well as 5 hubs (4 in the United States and 1 in Australia).
It operates at least 130 Centers worldwide: 65 in Europe, 48 in North America and Canada[20], 4 Centers in Latin America, 8 in Asia-Pacific, and 5 across Western Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa. [21]
Furthermore, the company has showrooms called Cosentino City in every country where it has a commercial presence; currently there are more than 40 worldwide.[22][23]

Foundations and Sustainability
[edit]In 2006, Cosentino established the Eduarda Justo Foundation [54] in tribute to Doña Eduarda Justo, mother of the group's three founders. The foundation focuses on initiatives for developing young talent, including programs such as the Future Leaders Seminar (SLF), international scholarships for high school students, and the Leading Schools Project.
In 2016, the Almerian multinational joined the Fundación Museo Casa Ibáñez in Olula del Río as a trustee. Since then, it has been known as Fundación de Arte Ibáñez Cosentino.[55]
It is a non-profit organization dedicated to managing the Museo Casa Ibáñez and other museum and cultural spaces nationwide of interest to the foundation and/or linked to the art gallery based in Olula del Río. By 2025, it manages five museum spaces in the province of Almería, in particular the Murec (Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism) in the Andalusian capital.
In 2022, Cosentino inaugurated the Cantoria Solar Energy Industrial Park in Almería. This facility features 38,000 solar panels and a production capacity of 34,000 MWh [56] annually. In 2023, this self-consumption photovoltaic park was expanded with an additional 28,000 panels installed on the roofs of the Dekton® production plant.
In 2023, Cosentino invested €22 million in R&D&I projects and assets, bringing the cumulative total to over €100 million over the last five years. Also this year, Cosentino inaugurated the Wastewater Regeneration Plant (ERAR)[57] as part of its water circularity challenge in Cantoria.
Litigation
[edit]The company has been involved in several criminal trials in Spain and other countries regarding cases of silicosis in various stone workshops. These proceedings questioned whether the company had provided sufficient information[58] about Silestone's composition and the necessary safety measures for working with this material. The company has been acquitted in most of these cases.[59]
