Colton Engelbrecht is a South African powerlifter. He has set all-time raw powerlifting records in the deadlift and total.[1]
Powerlifting career
[edit]In March 2025, Engelbrecht recorded a 1,200 kg raw total at the WPC Clash of Titans.[2]
In March 2026, Engelbrecht competed at the Siberian Power Show in Russia. Following the full powerlifting competition, he completed an exhibition 520 kg (1,146 lb) sumo deadlift using lifting straps.[3][4] The lift was unofficial under powerlifting rules because lifting straps are prohibited.[3] At 520 kg, Engelbrecht's lift exceeded Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson's 510 kg strongman deadlift world record by 10 kg, although the lifts were performed under different rules and Engelbrecht's lift did not supersede Björnsson's official record.[5]
In July 2026, Engelbrecht competed at the Nikolai Kagansky Memorial Cup in Moscow, where he recorded a 455 kg squat, 277.5 kg bench press and 492.5 kg deadlift for a 1,225 kg raw total.[1] His 492.5 kg sumo deadlift surpassed Danny Grigsby's previous 487.5 kg all-time raw deadlift record.[1]
