Citto Media is a Bangladeshi digital media and content platform founded by content creator Jewel Rana on 4 February 2025.[1] Its content primarily focuses on agriculture, nature and rural life, and also incorporates stories about people and elements of Bengali literature.[1]

History

[edit]

Citto Media was established on 4 February 2025 by Jewel Rana, who is from Harinakundu in Jhenaidah District, Bangladesh.[1] Rana studied law at Islamic University, Bangladesh and completed his postgraduate degree in 2018. Before establishing Citto Media, he spent several years attempting to practise law.[1]

According to a profile published by Prothom Alo in February 2026, Rana established Citto Media with the aim of producing content about rural communities, agriculture and the natural environment. The platform's videos combine observations of rural life with commentary and references to Bengali literature.[1]

Content

[edit]

Citto Media produces videos concerning agriculture, nature and rural communities. Its videos have featured farmers, agricultural activities, landscapes, animals and aspects of village life.[1] The platform also incorporates literary references and narration into some of its videos.[1]

In a February 2026 profile, Prothom Alo reported that Citto Media had published approximately 1,350 videos on Facebook and that its Facebook page had more than 3.5 million followers at the time. The same report said its YouTube channel had nearly 100,000 subscribers.[1]

Public profile

[edit]

Citto Media received coverage in Bangladeshi national media during 2026 in connection with the country's discussion of taxation of freelancers and digital content creators. The Daily Star identified Jewel Rana, using the spelling "Zuel Rana", as the owner of Citto Media and described the platform as producing nature-related content on social media.[2]

On 1 June 2026, Rana met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Bangladeshi media reported that the meeting included discussion of a proposed 7.5 percent source tax on income earned by freelancers and content creators. The Daily Star subsequently reported that the meeting was part of developments surrounding proposed tax relief for individual content creators and freelancers.[2][3]

The meeting and Citto Media's work were subsequently reported by several Bangladeshi news outlets. Ittefaq described Rana as the founder of Citto Media and reported that the Facebook page had exceeded 4.3 million followers at the time of its report.[3] Kaler Kantho similarly reported on the meeting and described the platform's content as combining agriculture, nature, people and literature.[4]

Rana has also been listed as a content creator affiliated with Citto Media by TEDxCCN-UST, where he was included among speakers for a TEDx event.[5]
