Christophe Pillet, born August 28, 1959, in Montargis, is a French designer and interior architect living and working in Paris. His work spans product design, interior architecture, scenography, and artistic direction...[1].
His work is characterized by an appealing elegance of form and a natural, effortless simplicity of line[2]. Commenting his work, Christophe Pillet has said: "I don't seek the extraordinary, but rather to reveal what is beautiful and moving in the ordinary"[3].
Biography
Training and beginnings
After graduating from the École nationale supérieure d'art de Nice in 1985, Christophe Pillet moved to Milan to study at Domus Academy, where he got his degree in 1986. Settled in that Italian city, he collaborated for four years with Michele De Lucchi, Carlotta de Bevilacqua, and Martine Bedin. He later joined Philippe Starck in Paris from 1989 to 1993[4]. There, he founded his own studio in 1993. He was named Designer of the Year in 1994[5].
Career
He has been engaged by international brands: Cappellini, Kartell, and Driade in Italy; Shiseido and Shu Uemura in Japan; Emeco and Whirlpool in the United States[6]; Veuve Clicquot, Lacoste, and L'Oréal in France. The Mobilier National entrusted Christophe Pillet with redesigning the July 14th ceremonial stand for the year 2000 celebrations[7][8].
Some of his pieces are part of the collections of the Centre Pompidou[9] and the Centre National des Arts Plastiques[10]
His work has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions around the world. He continues his collaboration with the Italian furniture industry, designs hotels and restaurants[11]
He has spoken at design events, such as Belgrade Design Week[12] and MUDAM in Luxembourg[13]
